Old or new?  And why?

New...

Old...

The "new" style has a grittier feel to it as it runs over the nail, but I think it does a better job.  I'm sure I'll get used to the new feel.

Cut, due to the versatility of use. It's both new and old. Spark erosion isn't really as versatile for anything but nails. Also hampered by the border around the surface.

I like the newer one, it just has a cleaner look to it, in my opinion.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

New file. I get cleaner results with it. I wish they would put it on the classic

I'm content with the old style. Haven't tried the new.

I don't think it's spark eroded. That would be too slow and costly. Maybe a spark eroded die that's pressed in. Bang! Done!

Neither!

I'm not filing down my toenails with the same knife I use to cut my food with.

Or vice versa.

For twenty years I thought the file on my little classic was good. Once I got used to the executive cut file, I know now theres no comparison. The new file is like said, a bit more gritty, kind of grabby, but in the end it does cut cleaner and faster, as well as being useful for other things like smoothing a burr on the nose piece of my granddaughters shooting glasses. With no border, it can be used as a file on softer materials like plastics.

So, my vote for the new file. :tu:

Which is why my SAKs are no longer used for foods and havent been for a while now.  I use my SAKs for any and everything except food.

That‘s why one has different SAKs...  :pok: :D

Well, as for my current carry, the Executive, I only use the big blade for food. Any other cutting, I use the small blade.

Oh, and I don’t use the sak for my toenails at all. Haha!!!

I keep my finger nails very neat for work so I trim them weekly with Classic scissors and do the rough filing with the Classic then swap to my Exec for the final filing touch ups.

All of that being said, as I don't use the Cadet on my nails I would prefer to have the file be useful on a variety of materials so I vote for the new File.

Honestly, I don't use a SAK for my nails at all.  I do that sort of thing at home with a real nail clipper and real nail file.

I know.

I do the same, but sometimes you are out and about and you notice that a fingernail is messed up. In that case, I use the classic to get a temporary fix. Because I know once I notice it, it will drive me crazy should I not fix it right away

Same here, the SAK is for “emergency” usage when not at home. I’ve got a bad habit of breaking or nicking nails at work.
