Runtime Test - 8 weeks 24/7!!
on: March 16, 2020, 06:12:26 AM
I pay a lot of attention to the advertised runtime of the flashlights I buy. I often look for those with a great deal of advertised runtime hours or days on the lower settings. I bought this ArmyTek Tiara C1 (uses an 18350 battery) and decided to put it to the test. On January 18th at 12:21PM I started the test. As of 3-15-20, it has been running for 8 weeks. The advertised runtime of this light is 60 days on firefly mode. On Wednesday it will hit 60 days. So far, I am impressed!

That's awesome! :like:

I love those lights where the 'moonlight' modes are truly low and could last for days, if not weeks.

I've never tested run times.  This is neat.

Hm, not sure how safe it is to overdischarge a LI-ion battery, but that is an impressive run time. Would probably be even longer if you gave the battery time to rest occasionally, and then add up the running times in the end.

It has a low voltage cut off.

At 60 days, I am going to pull the battery and measure voltage.

One thing I noticed...the light seems to be putting out the same level of light. I guess I expected it to dim a bit toward the end of my test. I do not have a light meter, so this is all just guesswork.

.4 lumens is a pretty low level, but at night, when my eyes adjust, it is almost too bright in my room.

When you say "it", do you mean the light or the cell?

It is very hard on a Li-Ion cell to run it to the typical 2.5V cell cutoff at low current.  At high current, not so much.

Well today at 12:21 PM the light had officially been running for 60 days in firefly mode! Now, here is the part that is amazing. I tested the battery (Vapcell 18350 1100mah) after pulling it from the light. It tested at 3.48 volts!!! That is a pretty amazing low draw for a 60 day runtime test.

I gotta say I am very impressed with this light. Now I have some other lights to run tests on!

That's pretty amazing. Was it still emitting light when you ended the test?

Just as bright as day 1!
