I have an ST300 EOD. On day 1, years ago, I swapped the EOD plier head out for the more useful pliers from a MUT.

The MUT pliers has the replaceable cutters with the hardwire notch while the EOD cutters have no notch.

I find the EOD cutters are said to cut cleaner because of the lack of that notch.

I tried to swap out the cutters, but found the cutters from MY EOD would not fit as they are shaped differently. See pic... the EOD cutter is on the right.

While perusing the Leatherman website, I was looking at their wire cutter kits and see that it appears the EOD cutters now are shaped the same as the notched cutters. See below...

I have sent an email to Leatherman to verify this design change.

Got another email saying the EOD cutters, while now curved, are thicker than regular cutters and not interchangeable.

Good catch. Either way, am I seeing a notch or imagining things?

I'm a little confused, so are the new EOD cutters not compatible with the old EOD pliers ?

Or maybe you have to replace both at the same time now instead of being able to replace one and not the other  They may not be compatible to use both a new and an old cutter?

I am going to measure the thickness of my regular and EOD cutters today. See what that tell me. If they measure the same, I may ask Leatherman to send me a pair of the new EOD cutters to see if they will work. Or at the very least, try it themselves.

Ok. Here we go....

The regular cutters measure at .083”

The EOD cutters measure at .085”

So there is a .002” difference. That is probably enough to make them not swappable??

However.... the shape of the cutout in the pliers is different. As you can see, the regular cutter will NOT fit into the EOD plier spot!

So not sure about anything now??

By the way, my digital calipers had a dead battery so I had to go old skool and thus no metric measurements.

Ok, major brain fart on my part!!!  The extra thickness would not be a problem but the different shape would, as far as new cutters in old eod pliers.

I’m ordering the new eod cutter kit. Should work fine in my MUT pliers on the ST300 EOD!

Ok. Update. Being told the eod cutters will NOT work in the regular MUT plier.

I finally CALLED the gal from Leatherman. She is working remotely from home. Said only warranty techs actually working at the shop.

Anyway, I was able to get her to better understand what I was saying and she said she did see where my older (2013) EOD plier head is made different from the current model. She said that the warranty techs didn’t seem to notice that.

She is sending them some of my pictures to show the difference. Then call me back later this week.

I wish someone nearby sold the cutter kit. I’d just go get it and try, but only place I can find it is on Leatherman website.

Yep. Haley is supposed to let me know what she finds out.  I was very straight forward with her over the mods I’ve made to my ST300 EOD, and also assured her that I have no desire to EVER send it in for warranty work. It is my Frankenstein tool and I’ll just scrape up replacement parts if and when I ever need any.

In all truth, all I’ve changed is the swap from the EOD pliers to the pliers from a MUT or ST300 regular. And the swap from the main blade to the SOG wire stripper.
