:woohoo: noce mod.  I wish I loved the combo tool.  I've tried but I find the combo tool underwhelming.  I have 84mm Golfer that really wants to play but is relegated to queen status.

I encourage you to go for a minimal SAK challenge with that SAK  :pok:.  Push your SAK comfort  :tu: [\b]

Got a Salesman on the way  :tu: ,  at least I believe so judging by the single picture. I'm pretty sure it's unmistakably and 84 mm set of scissors there

Hi guys,
I just picked up an 84mm Waiter (my perfect knife, really... and you can buy 10 of them for the price of a Spyderco...).

I was a little surprised that it has plastic liners, not metal (the liner, not the scales). Do all 84mm models have plastic liners? Have they always had plastic liners?

I could see that this might only be the Waiter, as it's just one layer and may not need the strength as a 2 layer SAK would.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Cheers,
Jeff C

Plastic liners is news to me!  :o They've always been regular aluminum like everything else to my knowledge.

Actually, on second thought, I think you're right. The Waiter has such a lightweight profile that it just feels wrong.

But I looked closer at my recently bought Tinker and the liners seem to be the same material.

Thanks,
Jeff

My passion for 84mm had to see this thread on the front page! I'm very new to SAKs (3 weeks!) but five out of a the eight I've acquired are 84mm. My first "real" SAK (after my excelsior many years ago) was a Tinker Small. On paper this seemed like the perfect SAK with its balance of size, layers and backside tools.

How wrong I was! As soon as it arrived I could only look upon it with disgust. My opinion on the backside Phillips had changed during the time the Tinker had spent in transit. I had underestimated how effective the can-opener driver would be, and I am now of the (controversial) opinion that all Cellidor SAKs should have a corkscrew! Not that I've ever used it, or the mini-driver. It's all about the character...

The Sportsman (or Tourist) are the perfect balance of layers to tools for my use (and aesthetics), although I do see the appeal of the Waiter as an ultra-light carry. The Waiter is noticeably thinner and lighter than the 2 layer 84mm's, but this makes it feels slightly unbalanced in my hands.

Despite its obvious omission, the Walker is also an excellent little knife. The saw is very efficient for the size and I find it performs fairly similarly its 91mm cousin. I'm not a huge fan of the combo tool as a driver (although it has surprised me on a few Phillips heads), but it's a price I'm willing to pay to stick to 2 layers. Alox isn't really my thing, but I have to admit lusting over the alox Walker.
