Skutility Blade
on: January 10, 2020, 02:57:52 AM
I am having WAY too much fun with relearning Fusion 360 and CAD and combining it with rapid prototyping. I am still thinking of a couple of different details but for a proof of concept. It is also undeniably adorable! This uses the small 28mm trapezoidal blades used on keychain knives and it has already tasted blood, I opened a USB cable box with it.

I call it...the Skutility Blade!

You're really loving the Skele lately, ha? :D

The thung I like about this and other or your latest mods is that they are easily reversable to stock if one doesn't like the feel or utility of itnin the end.

And this one feels like the most solid one out of all the skalpel ones you did. :tu:

Anyone know of any decent "keychain" utility knife blades? I have a few that have either come with used lots, or came along with a smaller knife in a gift set, and have dulled. You just don't find the small ones in stores.  I think, with some of the newer heavier plastics Shapeways is using, it will be great. Should make it less expensive, too. Metal options are not cheap there.

Great mod! Like the Havalon Evolve, but definitely better thought out and engineered, and obviously better made. And, if you've already got a Skeletool as I do--a lot less expensive.

I like that your design resulted in so much blade surface.  Those keychain size folding knife handles that use those mini blades usually cover up half of the cutting surface.  Yours seems much better.

I love this one. Perfect to make the Skeletool TSA compliant.

Going to make these available?

Eventually. The metal parts showed up today, after a fair bit of fitting its holding up great. I had to cheat and make it one part to avoid paying double as Shapeways charges per part.

I have a new style of blade I designed a holder for and will be ordering a new batch of parts for.

Just got in the Skeletool scalpel holder from your shapeways store. This thing is awesome. Accomplished exactly what I wanted. I always carry a utility knife with me, because I hate using regular knife blades for my everyday tasks and shop projects. So, this is now my slimmed down weekend carry. Thanks for excellent design!
