I swear some people have no friggin clue...

So I see an ad for a "gently used" knife, click picture, what do I see?

WTF? It's dirty, scratched to hell, AND THERE'S NO TIP LEFT! And he wants $35 for it (new one is $20).

Really makes you want to slap some sense into them.

I'd hate to see his hard use knifes. At least he shows a pic of the actual item. I got a SideClip off one guy and it wasn't even the tool he pictured for sale.

I got an old alox pioneer that was advertised as "a knife you'll be happy with". The pics were very blurry, so I went for it, got a knife that looks like it went trough hell and then some. Didn't pay much so decided to keep it.

Sounds like my experiences too. I just got in a 3 pack of used SAK's and the largest, a SwissChamp, was described as being in great shape. Not only are the scales damaged, cracked and broken but most of the tools are frozen shut. I cant even get the pliers to budge. Stuck in a dispute right now about it. Usually PayPal helps out in situations like these.

I have noticed it really is hit and miss when it comes to buying from folks on feeBay or other auction websites. With all the advertising on TV and other places to make folks mega $$$ just by selling their junk on these websites I think every cockroach in the country has crawled out and started selling.

I like the idea of buying and selling on Craigslist but I find there is not near as much folks looking to buy things on it. Only deal searchers who want to buy gold bullion at half the going market rate or some silly thing like that. The only part of Craigslist I think is going real well is the used or new car business. In my local area we get 1000 listings for cars every Friday and it varies on other days.

Well I guess sometimes you get a decent deal or maybe find a real deal but usually they are offset by the cruddy deals or ripoffs you end up with. Whatever the situation is I have been able to buy collectibles or unusual things from around the country or around the globe where I never would have before. So I guess I am saying, I will take the good with the bad and keep on buying.

I tend to stick to sellers I know on ebay, except where there's a real bargain to be had potentially. I'll generally pay an extra few dollars where I know that the seller's description will be accurate, and that he'll post it sometime in the same millennium!

I have been fairly lucky so far myself if it has been damaged a little it is usually when I haven't paid much for something but I buy my own fair share on Ebay so I am bound to get burnt sooner or later

I recently bought a Vic Champion and the seller said it was in excellent shape 9/10.. I got it, and the knife tip was broke, the magnifier was cracked, the file was chipped, and the scales were cracked too.. I only paid $9 but it was still false advertising!
