Other SAK-alikes
on: April 15, 2020, 02:28:00 PM

Has anyone ever listed the legit SAK-alikes (not including Chinese junk)?  I didn't know there were so many other countries/companies making them. Here's what I have heard about so far:
Aitor, ISC, Puma, Mercury, Boker Tech Tool, Swiza.

Please post other reasonable quality SAK-alike makers and countries (company must make multiple models with variety of tool  sets):  (just curious)

Hubertus makes some as well. They are another company located in Solingen. Their main focus is hunting knives afaik. I cannot say anything about the quality of their knives, as I never owned one, but i am planning to rectify that sooner or later  :D

If possible post pics of brands mentioned. I've never heard of Roxon, Mikov and never seen models from Hubertus,Zwilling etc.
Just trying to relieve some boredom here. Not been out of house in 3 weeks.

Roxon. Look at the single tools. Not at the overall design. You'll fin vic and wenger there. One model would be the roxon storm s801. Pics... when the lockdown will be over

I have it on a second residence, and by now I can not go there because of confinement.
I got it second hand in a pack with other knives and it's not in a very good condition, but quality is excellent, and the model is very similar to a victorinox huntsman. Some tools are identical.

I will post some photos when I can.

I found Roxon and Mikov via Google. Roxon is similar to Leatherman Free styles. Mikov is more like VIC/Wenger.

Solingen is a town in Germany. Kind of the knife capital of Germany. A lot of brands from Germany are located there.

Well I once handled a 91mm style of knife from Mikov and it felt really well made.

A short search learned me that they also made/make a modern version in the 111mm size

I know. Been there. That's why i specified that that's the brand stamped on. No other company

Depending on your definition of "alike", the relatively new Leatherman Free T2 and T4 (shown) are SAK like.

Yes, I've been looking at the Leatherman Free T4 on knifecenter. I would consider it a SAK-alike; more Alox like.

Those are some nice examples!  :like: How is the saw on these compared to the 91mm SAK?

The Hubertus saw is longer but because of the bottle opener its effective length is almost 1cm less. Also, the teeth are backwards instead of straight. The Hubertus knives are meant as hunting tools and the saw is a bone saw but it saws wood well enough.

PS the corkscrew (on mine) is a nail breaker.

PSPS Hubertus knives are handmade and their fit and finish is not perfect like e.g. GEC knives. I don´t mind though.
