HAM radios, shortwaves and the like.
on: September 07, 2023, 01:20:41 AM
There may be another similar thread, but it didn't come up when I searched it.

A couple of you chimed in when I posted a pic of my Grundig shortwave. So let's see your radios! Dig'em out,, put in some fresh batteries and let see some pics!!

I will post more of mine over the next few days.

Here you go: two of my three shortwave sets!

This Grundig Mini World 100 PE has led a rough life, but it was cheap. Lately its AM performance has been suffering, but it still does well on FM. It's made several challenge appearances, and only recently got demoted from being my go-to "beater" set.

And here we have the CCrane SkyWave SSB. This is an amazing set; sort of like the radio equivalent of a Victorinox Compact. Unfortunately, it doesn't see much use. I get crap reception in my neighborhood, and I'd be extremely unhappy if one of the cats messed it up.

I'm away from home for a few days, but I'll break out my Grundig and post it when I get back!

My brother and I have made getting our Ham license a top priority before the end of the year.

Good goal! Even with the Technician limits, you cans still talk  a long ways on 10 meters. I've reached out just over 4000 miles for a contact with a simple homemade wire  antenna.

I've set a goal to get my General ticket for a few years now, but life sure is consuming.

I've been using this Degen DE1121 at work lately, but just on FM. It does have good ears for the other bands too,, but the noise level is too high at work to hear weak signals.

Hope you succeed! :tu:

Looks like a pretty neat little set! :like: If I tune to 101.1 MHz, I get WRIF.

Cool, I listened to WRIF for a few minutes the morning on the web. Here it is WROQ classic rock.
