This year's fire is about as bad as I've seen.  Family in Santa Monica says they are safe, for now.  Ready to evac if ordered to do so, but for now just dealing with a lot of smoke.

I truly do feel for everyone who has lost their homes in this (and any) fire.  Fortunately it seems to be hitting the houses of the wealthy for the most part-- not that I take any pleasure in that, but at least these people likely have other places to go and the funds to rebuild, unlike an awful lot of other people.

The really smurfty part is that Canada has sent two CL-215 firefighting aircraft (known affectionately as water bombers) down to help out, but one has been grounded because some piece of smurf smurfhole dog smurfing smurf blister had been flying a drone in the area and damaged one of them. 

I hope they find that ass smurf and take every dollar he earns for the rest of his life in restitution for the extra damage caused because he disabled fire fighting equipment.

But then I may take that kind of thing a little extra personally...

I'm with you on that Def.  I really feel for these people.  I listened to a podcast yesterday from a lady who left her house thinking it was just a precautionary evac and wound up losing everything.

We had some fires here pretty bad a couple of years ago, and one of the local radio hosts was affected.  She and her family had been evacuated, and when they got to the end of their street they realized they had forgotten something.  They turned around to go back and they couldn't make it- the smoke was so thick, and as they found out later, their house was likely already burning.

People don't realize just how devastating this kind of thing can be, and how fast it can move until you have seen it first hand.

And I really don't recommend seeing it first hand if there is any way you can avoid it.
