War of the Arrows (2011)

9/10
Fantastic. I feel like a few scenes drag for a little too long, but the action is excellent.

The Quick and the Dead (1987)
9/10
Fantastic western. Sam Elliott is exquisite.

Conagher
8/10
Another Sam Elliott western. Also good.

Open Range
8/10
Another good western. I liked the characters in this.

Chato's Land
10/10
My kind of movie. A man taking out a team of bad guys in the wilderness, kinda like Rambo 2.

Silverado
9/10
Why is this not more well-known? It seems like it would be a classic, with all the big names in it, and the quirky humor but excellent action. And yet, I had never heard of it, I never saw it in any Top 10 lists, any Western lists in imdb, I never caught in on the tv. It was very enjoyable, with very likable characters.

Okay, this doesn't count as a movie, but if you don't like my advice you can have your money back.

The HBO series Mare of Easttown is worth watching - if you have HBO Max or one of its siblings.  Small town, Pennsylvania murder mystery over about 7 episodes.  Starring Kate Winslet.  She is no glamour queen in this one, but a worn down, rough around the edges police detective with a largely crappy life.  Mare of Easttown is Powernoodle Approved.  8.3/10.

Spiffing series of modern time westerns you've got there!
I especially like Open Range, the shootout scene feels very authentic (bar the missing reloads, Costner had them on film but they were left on the cutting room floor, or so the story goes)

I enjoyed it, I think that's the end of Series 1?  :dunno:  Wishing there was more...
I posted about it on the Netflix thread. :pok:  (I don't have Netflix, but something similar)

In a Valley of Violence
8/10
A familiar plot, western or not. Quite good. Excellent performances, action, and atmosphere.

Last Stand as Saber River
9/10
This was a great western. Tom Selleck is excellent.

Crossfire Trail
9/10
Another Tom Selleck western. I loved it!

Keoma (1976)
6/10

This feels clunky. I do not like the signing at the end of most scenes. The protagonist talks way to much, and his lines are trying too hard to make it seem like he is a tough guy. The flashbacks with the current day protagonist present are awkward and far too many. The old west vernacular seems too forced and weirdly out of place, despite this being a western.
Not too bad I guess, but there are way better westerns out there.

Soldier Blue
9/10

This was a wonderful western. I loved Cresta, Candice Bergen's character. The interactions of the two leads were enjoyable. Great pacing, atmosphere, some survival skills. Quite the adventure.
The ending is rather brutal, so this is not for everyone.

The Hunting Party (1971)
9/10

Another terrific western. That Gene Hackman, oh boy. Ruthless characters suit him so well.

Waste of time. Very poorly done horror movie. Characters, plot, horror scenes, action scenes, dialogue, everything is sub-subpar.

Ready or Not
9/10
So enjoyable. Excellent performances, quite gory, just the right amount of dark humour, and the premise, though silly at first, does manage to be plausible, for a movie anyway. I was glad that they went with the good ending instead of doing the bad ending.

The Forest (2016)
5/10
Kind of generic. A bit clunky at times. Not really scary, too many jump scares. Nice cinematography of the forest, a bit spooky. If you liked Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones, you might like this, but as a horror movie, it is not the best.

Rogue (2007)
8/10
Great creature feature. Great effects, great characters, nice build up. I especially like Radha Mitchell in this. This is what a creature feature looks like when it is not a B movie.

The 2nd was Wall-e, but in Blu-ray, we absolutely adore this movie, and well we got it in Blu-ray and it was so much more crisp,
