Changing an Autotool TP battery!

This one is a bit more complex, and you will need a jeweler's saw, like a Zona Saw, which you can get at a hobby shop. Normally it is used with the Zona Miter box to cut moldings for model railroads, so I have one for mine, but here is another use.

First off, the "cover" is held on by several things. Starting with that snap ring on the nose of the tool, that is a STRAM ring, and is a bit dicey to get off, Work it off with a pocket screwdriver, it will come off cleanly. Next remove the screw from the back. Now locate the fingernail indent near the top where you pull up the tool. Now slowly pick it up, and note that it is still attached someplace. That is under the area where the thing is fastened to the main tool body.

Here, carefully you cut the plastic. It is very thin, see below. The cut is right next to that "R0999" sticker. It goes up the body of the main tool. Cut carefully, then the whole thing will come off ....



Now ease the thing apart. There is a cord connecting the top to the bottom. Work that around so the circuit board is up. There are 6 ittsy bitty screws holding the board to the top art of the unit. Take those out carefully, then separate the board from the top.

Turn it over ....



There is your battery. A Pansonic CR1620 3V button battery. Swap in a good one.

Now carefully reverse your disassembly process. Start by reattaching the board to the top with the 6 screws, then folding that wire back down, slip the whole thing back together.

Now with the exception of the cut you made it is complete. Put the screw back into the back first, then work the STRAM ring back down.

Repair made!

Everything I have read on line and in the SAK WIKI says that this thing is not serviceable. So I guess most figure it that is so. Nothing is "Sailor Proof" and if somebody put the thing together, somebody should be able to get it apart and service it. That long side goes back into the handle of the tool and is riveted into place, which is why one needs to make the cut -- but only as far as necessary. Note I left the "foot" on the top cover. As I said, carefully saw thru that thin layer.

Once reassembled, the cut is not really visible, but if you know it is there, you will notice it. Just a side bar.

Then replace the battery.

Which is also why it was discontinued.

Yeah for the flashlight battery, not the pressure gauge.
