RCMP investigate shooting in Dartmouth parking lot

By THE CANADIAN PRESS
Sat. Jan 3 - 12:29 PM

RCMP are investigating after a 23-year-old man was shot while walking with a friend in Dartmouth earlier today.

The victim was rushed to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Forest Hills Shopping Centre where an unknown man walked up and fired, hitting the victim once.

The suspect then fled on foot.

An RCMP forensics team is on scene.

It was however one of our local competitors, just a few miles away.  Fun fun fun!

Gone are the days when bar fights were settled by fists, knives,or "Australian boxing gloves".It's dismaying that in small towns near me,Huntington, and Charleston WV,that bar shootings are at least a weekly thing.

Well my guess is it was a targeted shooting since the shooter walked up to the victim in the parking lot and pulled the trigger then left.  If it was a random act of violence thing then they would have likely gone in and shot the whole bar up, trying to get as many as possible, then trying to make a getaway with the crowd.

The latest reports say that the victim was the wrong target, so there may be another shooting soon unless the cops catch the gunman.  This may work in my favor as I am trying to work with the provincial government to assemble a mandatory training course for door staff at bars, mostly in situational management, since prevention won't catch everything.

The owners of my bar are paranoid that the clientele of that bar (which are of the element to attract such things as parking lot shootings) will be displaced and attempt to relocate to our bar.  Fortunately the atmosphere in our bar doesn't cater to the average gang-banger, and our dress code offends them.  We don't allow crooked hats, sleeveless shirts or giant, gaudy "bling" such as those gold plated ship's anchor sized neck chains.

We are an upscale bar, and if the harassment at the door doesn't stop them from coming in then the music probably will- very little hip hop/dance music, lots of blues and classic rock.
