Easy Mut Mods
on: May 10, 2020, 05:39:22 PM
Hello,
First of all, I am new at the post, in fact I am not a native English speaker so sorry for my mistakes. I am leatherman Owner for a while, I recently get a New one the Leatherman MUT, I am a civilian but the MUT have some features that fits me: The easy access of most of the tools and the hammer.
So let me show you my mods:
1-   I removed the security latch and add a small strung magnet that keeps the plier close

2-   Victorinox large tweezer, modifying a little bit the plastic bit part

3-   I added two needles again modifying a little bit the plastic bit part:

4-   I 3d printed a bit housing for small bits

5-   The file. It is a real need to have a file in the tool, I am planning to remove the saw and add the surge t-shank holder, but for the moment that is the best I could do, at list I can sharp the blade:

6-   The punch: I sharpen the punch, and create a new 3d printed part that have more space, I have some ideas for additions to the 8 32 thread part. I also added a very small screw to the threaded section of the pliers, son I can attach de sharpened punch.

I am planning to do something with the scraper T recently bought a small sccisors for about 10€

Thanks Guys,
More improvements: it was a little bit difficult but I was able to 3d print the Bit part, I will try  to upload the 3d models to thingiverse in case you want to use them.

Most of the ideas are not new, but all together is a great improvement of the tool.

Really nice mods bro! Can you tell me how to take apart the side tan insert, the one with the slot for the additional bit? I'd like to do the tweezers mod to my MUT, but don't know hot to do...  :dunno:

You are going to need a T10 driver to dismantle the plastic bits. If you open the saw and the knife blade you will see a Torx screw towards the pointy end of the saw and knife blade. Undo these two screws and push the plastic bit towards the hammer (I think, I have not taken one apart in a few years...) then lift it up. It might be lose once the screws are out. I added a pic with a yellow circle to show the screws that needs to come out.

Cheers, Pete

Thanks dude! Can i ask another question? Do the surge blade-exchanger fit without any mod or adjustment, in the place of the original saw? And did you ever tried to put it in the place of the bronze scraper? That mod could be a game changer for my mut!

That was a test fit, but it never worked as a drop-in mod where the saw is. I did not try fitting where the scraper is (A locking mechanism is required to prevent it from folding closed). There are some other members here that have done some excellent mods.

Have a read through this thread I did, I explain why it is not a direct drop in mod:

Inmate: x-iled has done some good mods:
