The two SAKs that I inherited from my first wife when she died obviously speak to me, as do the ones I inherited from my father and my great uncle.Of the ones I have owned from new myself, I wanted, wanted, WANTED the Vic Fisherman, despite not intending to use the fishing tool for its official purpose, and finally received one for my birthday this year from the current Mrs. EMarkM.It's only been away from me a couple of times since I received it at the beginning of the month, when I specifically needed something in my pocket that would complete a task using non-Fisherman tools.I love it and have a feeling it will remain my favourite all 'round knife.
Great that you have found the SAK that works best for you Must be nice to inherit a knife that your family carried before, I imagine they are even more special
I bought a used Sportsman out of curiosity a few years ago. At that time my only pocket knives were a Handyman and a Rambler. They replaced a lost scout/camping knife I'd had for nearly 40 years. I thought they were all I'd ever need. On receiving the Sportsman I was struck by how much it reminded me of my trusty old knife. Same functionality and more in the same very pocketable two layers. It was love at first sight and was my favourite cellidor pocket carry until relatively recently, when I discovered the delights of the small blade and began to prefer the Tourist. While I have many different SAKs now, the original officer's knife pattern is that which speaks to me the clearest.
You know how there's things that keep you up at night?I always wondered which sport the Sportsman was supposed to be used for. My only guess is that it's meant to repair shoes with cleats. And then for the after-game celebration...
The first time I felt an Alox model in my hand....
That’s what she......never mind
A lot of people here feel like that about the Soldier, and it is a great pattern for sure
I never knew a Mountaineer lite existed
The last one that spoke to me was the Lumberjack, which I now have. I like it because it is a minimalist SAK that includes a wood saw. One that's speaking to me now is the Tradesman.
If they mean the alox Soldier, I agree with them! I feel it might be, overall, the best pocket knife ever made. It's comfortable and robust and has a fantastic everyday toolset. It's one of my preferred work knives and I love the awl. I only wish its blade were a tad thinner and that it had a small blade as well!
Yep, I got all two of 'em! Here they are in all their mountaineering beauty.
That’s the one! A lot of function in a small but robust package. I think you could run them over with a car and they wouldn’t even blink. Maybe I gotta test that eventually
This is the SAK that made me start this topic:(Image removed from quote.)
And a lovely knife it is too. The heart wants what it wants, and there's worse things to chase than that beauty
I think the secret is in combining SAKs, so you can have all features that you want. Also has the added benefit that you can carry more than one SAK at a time What friend does your Tinker small want?
