Saks from your place
on: May 21, 2020, 09:48:29 PM
My place is winterthur. I live here like my grandparents and parents, I was born here and I love this city.
As a knife collector, it is a particular pleasure for me to collect knives with a visible reference to winterthur.

Other place knife collections here?

Those are very nice Sneider. Especially the vintage cellidor ones :dd:

I've never seen any SAKs from the places where I was born or where I lived, studied or went to college :(

Hi guys, thank you for your nice comments.

It is unfortunate that there are so few souvenir SAKs from other locations, or also advertising knifes with the location of the company. On the other hand, some countries have their own knife manufacturers that they prefer, or cheap imported goods. If the swiss army knight rules allow it, you can also show other pocket knives with location reference in this thread, I would be happy. :salute:

@jnoxyd: Nice piece, I'm still missing that.  :ahhh
Seems to be a thermal print with ink filling. The motive could be from the "Schleiferei Winterthur", with a grinding wheel in the logo.

... I wish there were more from other countries.

1000% my opinion!

There's a few from Portugal, but despite showing images that reference a specific city, they just have Portugal written in the scales.

Unfortunately I don’t have any either.  :-[

There is a company in Germany though, that prints whatever picture you want on the scales. Was thinking about doing that when Covid is over, and have them put the Coat of Arms of my city of birth on.

Yes, I have seen such knives with photo prints. Look nice. If you would like such a knife from your city, why not?  ;)

There is also this "Place to be" series, in addition to many Swiss places I have also seen Los Angeles, London, Berlin.

Outside of Europe, I only have these two:

Here they are: Classic with the flag (awlso this one had a special edition, with a reference to Euro 2016 in the back scale) and Spartans with images from Lisboa (tram), Barcelos (represented by Barcelo's cock rooster) and the more generic portuguese tiles, found in many cities from north to south.

@jnoxyd. Nice group, scales like this are very rare to see here. Is the inlay on the far left nickel silver? Seems so yellowish.
Thanks for showing here!

The prints seem to be from the same printer as the Portugal knives from pfrsantos. Do you know if these prints are made by Victorinox itself?

One more Place knife from New York. It has an interesting story behind: in 2016 Victorinox started artists competition for better knife design for USA knife. Young artist won and got $5000 from Victorinox.

And watches, and Jojo Mayer, my favorite drummer :)

I'm pretty sure those are printed by Victorinox. The design is identical to the ones with Swiss places, Vienna, Paris, etc. with the curved name etc.

+1

Different orientation, though...

I think they have a template for the country related images. Each country provides images and Victorinox prints the scales.

Very special design, the NYC Climber. Thank you!  :salute:

@ Reinier: You know Jojo Mayer?  :o

@Reinier and pfrsantos: then at least those with the uniform design will be printed by Victorinox. Thank you both  :tu:
