Surely you all know this feeling, a new box arrives, and unwrapping it is one of the most exiting things of the whole week, right?
So, whats in it? Will it be as invisoned? Or maybe, just maybe even better?
Small, easy to transport, valuable... Always good to have.
If one day you find yourself being the best man, this box comes in handy as well:
Not what you may think, the seasoned best man wears a ring. All by himself!
As time and tide wait for no man, theres a third box, to make sure all goes well:
So, all nice and good, but whats the author trying to tell us?
Maybe dehydrated? Maybe he went nuts?
Or nugget(s)?
Faaar from it, this is the box we have been waiting for:
The Climber Gold Limited Edition 2016.
Grabbing it form the box the first time, you´ll notice something is different...
The golden Climber feels heavy, in a good, solid way. So, out comes the scale and things get interesting.
Where a standard Climber measures 86 Gramm, thats roughly 3 ounces, the Limited Edition comes at a whopping 103,9 Gramm, which translates into 3,63 ounces.
Midas touch? All that glitters is in this case gold?
Well, if it would be that way, we had roughly 18 Gramms of 24K Gold, worth about 700€.
...or 774$, US that is.
So, being the smart ass I am, I ordered 100 additional Climber Gold´s, at a streetprice of 60€ clearly a steal, righ?
Just kidding, the liners are made from nickel silver, or new silver. Thats where the additional weight comes from.
The liner are more refined as their aluminium counterparts, so well worth the weight.
The Climber family has a safe place in my daily carry, ans a little variety never hurts...
With the box comes a well made lanyard, solid clip and nice texture.
I like it!
Victorinox borrowed this design from the olympic gold medals. Those will start on the 5th of August this year. The 31st Olympic Games of the modern era, by the way.
Olympic gold for undoped athletes, thats the way it should be, right?
I´m looking at you, Russia!
:-)
There´s a hole in the bucket, duh, the Scales?
Please, be at ease! Thats where the connaisseur places his emergency pin. Can come in handy, trust me on this, I know!
Fit and finish is superb on this specimen, and I´m realy picky...
Ever got a dud from Victorinox?
See, me neither...
Did you notice the mirrored numbers on the scales?
At first I thought, maybe that is the gold stamp, but it turned out, those are in-house production numbers and the numcers in the circle nominate the year of manufacture. Nice touch.
Besides the lanyard you´ll get a certificate, which explaines the circumstances for the Climber Gold coming to be. In my case, in German and Englisch, but its distributed worldwide, so there may be other languages as well.
20.000 are made, worldwide. More than lets say with the Damast Pioneer X, but negligible, considering the output Victorinox has in any given day. Which is roughly 120.000 knives and tools a day, by the way.
So, as you might have guessed, I´m a happy Climber, a, Camper, and the Climber Gold is surely worth your consideration!
Being German, I couldn´t pass this opportunity:
Thanks for bearing with me, if you have any questions, feel free!
