I did post these on another thread, could have been classes knives or something like that. Anyway, I do a bit of crude green wood spoon carving, so like a whittler.

All Solingen made.

L-R:

1. Boker, carbon steel, beer barrel oak
2. Carl Schlieper, a Freidrich Olbertz brand, stainless steel, yellow acrylic
3. Boker, congress carpenter’s whittler, carbon steel, rosewood
4. Kissing Cranes, a Robert Klaas brand, stainless steel, horn
5. Zwilling J.A. Henckels, stainless steel, walnut. Again, I reckon this could be Boker made.

Across the top, Hen & Rooster stag, the most used. Possibly a Boker pattern again?

I also have a Rough Ryder whittler, yes cheap, Chinese and a bit cruder in design, but it does work well. I would like to try something like a GEC, but virtually impossible to get hold of in the UK.

I have been using a larger bladed Japanese Hiro IC Cut for roughing. Unfortunately it has a lock, so now a no, no for the UK. Any ideas on an alternative? I was thinking of a Barlow. Never owned one, are the blades any chunkier than the main blade on a whittler?

Great splitbacks Steve.  Do you have any thoughts on why Schrade and Western would put a sabre grind on a whittler's main blade?  To me a flat or hollow grind would be more appropriate.

Most of the time. Those are usually what's called a Splitback whittler. Then there is the swell center or Carpenters Whittler like the Camillus 72
