UK knife shopping
« on: June 05, 2020, 06:03:48 AM »
Good day
I have a friend living in london who is not into knives. What is the best way he can buy knives for me? Online/ dealer/ shop. Amazon uk doesnt have a lot of options.
Is it better to ask him to order from US?
Am talking about buck and camillus and want to now the best prices/ including delivery.
In case you ask; I dont have the luxury of ordering from where I live nor have any dealers except for Victorinox.
Thanks

https://www.hagglezon.com/  compares the prices and show the available products of the various European Amazon sites .

Buck is Buck but Camillus is not the original US company anymore, in case you are not aware of it. I don't know how good their current products are.

If you want to take a slight gamble you can also get UK made knives here: https://www.sheffield-made.com/acatalog/Pocket_Knives-p1.html

Also, this may be of interest: https://www.euro-knife.com/

Others have given some decent links and I have used most of them with no issues  :tu:

Ordering knives into the UK can be problematic with a number of on-line auction sites as most won't ship to the UK. Moreover, even if they will, the cost of shipping can be as much as 50% of the purchase price (that's my own personal experience and others may know better)  :dunno:

However, it's not just auction sites. I can't order from the US L/M site as they won't ship here either. I suspect they are using our very restrictive knife laws as an excuse to palm people off to their "official" retail partner, here in the UK, where the prices are substantially higher (or am I just too cynical  )

I have ordered from Etsy (UK) albeit that the goods were shipped from outside the UK, but only for sheaths and lanyards etc... so can't speak as to their particular quirks in relation to blades?

Also, please consider that certain types of knives that are legal in mainland europe are completely illegal here, or require an import licence, and that the importer (your friend) could have a very unpleasant visit from the authorities.. :police:

Good luck  :tu:

They don't like it up 'em!

The Buck is a locking blade and therefore illegal to carry without a good reason (reason is decided by a court, not the police).

Just tell your friend to buy a 91mm sak  :tu:

That's only a 500% markup from the price during a sale in a US shop!

What country are you in that you are looking at a UK friend to buy on your behalf?

There are shipping services that will forward on packages for you and I've had success on other forums with US members forwarding on packages to the UK for me (sometimes as a standalone thing, sometimes as part of a second hand sale I purchased from them). Hope you get more steel in your life soon!
