Elinox Stamps
on: June 11, 2020, 12:11:58 AM
Greetings everyone.

Quick question if I may. Does anyone know if the larger Elinox stamp logo ever appeared on 84mm alox. Examples attached. The celidor logo is larger. I have the same large small examples in 91mm so have concluded that the difference is age related I think the smaller logo is earlier on celidor. I cannot find an example of an 84mm alox with the big logo though like my celidor tourist in the pic.

Help a brother out!

Yes, it did! The large Elinox stamp shows up on the earliest 84mm Elinox knives like these (next to an early Elinox Spartan for reference). Left is a Duo with large Elinox stamp and unpolished main blade. Middle is a Waiter with large stamp and polished main blade.

Thanks Jazz bass,

I think I was less clear than I could have been. A friend has a voyageur with a snapped blade. I want to give him the tourist pictured ( it has the large logo).

Will this be appropriate for an alox knife?

Thank you.

To me, this question is completely different from your original one. I can answer your original question: The large Elinox stamp does occur on 84mm Alox SAKs, as can be seen in the attached image.

As for the appropriateness of repairing a vintage SAK by using a replacement part that somebody believes to be "the same" as the original: I personally consider such a thing to be a kind of abomination. If a vintage SAK needs to be repaired, I think that it's better to do it by using a modern part that makes the repair obvious. Otherwise, in a sense, you are creating a forgery.

Its an interesting topic. It is probably not something I would do to a knife I own but it will be the choice of the knife owner ultimately. I am grateful for the information.

Thank you.
