New Tool
on: June 13, 2020, 02:17:27 PM
Hey, well after selling most of my knives I am now after a nice Leatherman. Out of the 2 would you get a Wave or pay the extra and get the Charge Titanium? Is the Charge worth the extra money?

Depends on your preference really  I have a few Charges and sometimes the better steel in the knife blade seems worth it but I still really like the Wave, so.... :dunno: :D

MTO regular response is to get both

Wave + is less bulky and fits better in the hand. It’s also easier to sharpen.

I prefer the hand feel of the Charge Ti, the handles seem to be more grippy or something.  Are you able to handle both before deciding ?

Get a Surge  :pok:

I've had both a Charge Tti and a Wave (original) and they are both great tools  :tu:

I preferred the Tti but the Wave felt more solid in the hand (double entendre warning)  :dunno:

I refer you to my first response

I bought a Wave and then separately bought and installed a 154cm blade myself. Can’t beat that imo

I agree with this genius individual :tu:.

I like my Wave(s), never been a fan of the Charge series because of cost. I read somewhere that after you use a Surge the Wave becomes a toy. I don't want to offend any Wave lovers as I also am one (and carrying mine until the Surge gets back) but I agree with the statement.

I got second hand (2nd gen) Wave and new Charge Ti.  I always use the (modded) Wave.  Feels nicer in the hand.  And especially as a tool, if I damage the Wave when using it I would replace it ASAP.  If I damaged the Charge I'd replace it (with a wave!)   :salute:  YMMV

Sorry to be a party pooper, but with the quality of Leatherman these days I will go with Victorinox a Swisstool Spirit or a Swisstool X will be my choice!
Enjoy!

All the ones mentioned above have been better to me than both my Swisstool and my Spirit ;) to each his own :salute:

I'd still rather have a LM personally  :D

The Charge G10 would be the single tool I would buy. 7.9OZ (.6 lighter than the wave), better ergos, better steel, and no crimper!

I do like the Charge (wish I hadn't given mine away, I know, I know  )

A quick google search and the cheapest I could see for a G10, in the UK was £199
This equals $250 US or $221 EU (so that would be a no then) :surrender:

LOOOOVE the look of the Orange G10 Charge but that price tho.  :o

Recently picked up very good condition Charge TI and XTI off of the 'Bay for ~$130 combined so hard to justify $170+ for one. Not without a  :twak:  from the ol' lady anyway.

I have the Charge + TTi and Surge LE. Both awesome. The Surge is nore heavy duty and bulky than the Charge but that titanium just speaks to me... more of a "dress" tool for me lol
