93mm Awl Question
on: June 16, 2020, 02:58:25 AM
Does anyone know why broken awls are so common on 93mm knives? I seem to see them far more often than on traditional American-made camping knives. It has to be abuse; most likely from prying. But, I don't get it. Why not just use the cap lifter? It will pry most anything without hurting the knife in the least.

I know what you mean, I've seen a few that I would've liked to buy but the broken awl made me hold off.  I almost broke the tip off of my new PX awl a couple of weeks ago, but stopped myself in time.  I was using it to scrap/chisel some wood out of the doorframe when I was installing a new lock that didn't quite fit.  The scraping went well but there was one point where needed to lean into it a bit and I felt it flexing.  I'm sure if I hadn't stopped right then it would've snapped.  The cap lifter wouldn't have snapped - but it doesn't have a blade.  Probably something like that that causes it.
