UPS brought this Farmer X today. It is a gift from my best friend.

I love the feel of it. It fits my hand perfectly and has a great tool set. I have always preferred the awl on the alox models over the awl on the backside.

This actually is the perfect EDC SAK.

Excellent stuff  :tu:
I'm a bit dischuffed with Vic/DHL now  :twak:

It seems we ordered at the same time (certainly the same day) yet mine is still swanning around Europe collecting dust until the 1st June

I just realised, no one's made a SAKWiki page for the Farmer X yet. :ahhh :twak:  :D
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Well, it's finally here  :mail: :woohoo:

I took a few pics of it with some of it's cousins, to aid any comparisons wanted by others  :dunno:

It was also a good excuse to get some of them out  ;) (leaving the double entendre there for you know who  )

So, without further ado, here's some shots of the FX with the Farmer, PX, Pioneer, Cadet and Mini-Champ.

Still room for a Cadet X though Vic'  :pok:

Glad everyone got their Farmers.

Question please. The wire stripper notch in the bottle opener works well at the 90 degree angle because the blade is right next to it. So when you rotate the wire the blade edge is up close to the wire as you cut the insulation. I did this with my cadet.

I noticed in the Farmer X the blade is not as close to the can opener. There are 2 layer tools (1 layer for the Farmer w/o scissors) right before the blade. Also at that 90 degree angle the wire stripper notch is partially blocked by the back of the saw.

Would it still do the job? I don’t have the Farmer X to try this out😂 Thanks

I think we had some discussion about this in a different thread.  IIRC, the conclusion was that, particularly with a SAK on which the bottle opener is layers away from the main blade, the best approach is to pinch the wire between the main blade and the adjacent liner and spin around to make the initial cut, then (with the blade closed) use the wire stripper notch with the bottle opener in the fully open position to strip off the insulation.

Makes sense. Thanks!!!!

I usually cut the sheathing with the scissors. I like the precision they offer.

Yep - we were trying to figure this out on another thread pretty recently.  I'm actually still trying to work this out in my head.

I think you still need to have the screwdriver open at the half-stop to keep the wire from jumping out like a watermelon seed... and even then I'm not sure it would stay put.

Anyone up for some experimentation?  For science!

Given the highest standards the company has I would have thought they would have figured this out by rearranging the tools. I like the Farmer but seems like my Cadet is pure perfection😜

Though if the Cadet X comes out I’ll probably pull the trigger.

Or bring back the Voyageur with a Bantam X

I would buy either in a heartbeat.
