Next up, a bit of a rare bird...

The differences in the blades. That and I think the original SX was only made for a month or so...so they are hard to find out in the wild. This one, a kind MT.O member who was able to visit the local Leatherman factory store, was able to send one my way..

The Flair is something a bit different in the Leatherman lineup. Just because it is different didn't mean someone out there didn't attempt to copy its charms. Like all copies it never got to Leatherman quality levels, and on this one, it looks similar from the outside, but once you open them up, you will note that the Flair goes deeper than the copy in giving you gourmand comforts.

Speaking of copies, how about a Mini copy?

Here, you can see that the copy of the Mini is not as mini as the real Mini. However, there is enough confusion that you just might get this thinking you were actually bidding on a real Mini, as I did. Mind you, this was part of a package off of eBay where I saw this in the middle of a bunch of cheaper multi-tools. I bid on it thinking it just might be real but noticed there were no Leatherman markings shortly after my first bid. I won and it wasn't too much and verified it was a clone once I got it home. I was very happy in scoring this for my collection. On the other hand, if you are expecting a Mini and you got this, well...you would be justified in being somewhat angry.

Luckily enough, I have only seen 1 knife that was not a Leatherman product with Leatherman written all over it...and that was some time ago. For the most part, although others copy Leatherman designs, they usually do not go as far as to write and imprint Leatherman's name on their tools. This is probably because Leatherman is rabid about protecting their name. Hence the fun I have when ordering from them online I suppose.

How about a Super Tool and its evil sidekick...Super Tool Clone.  >:D

This attempt to clone a Super Tool went right down to its tool selection. Thankfully, they stopped at marking the tool a Leatherman.

20200927_121330A by Chako, on Flickr

I used the cap crimper model of the Super Tool, Otherwise, a very close clone.

While on the subject, let the clone wars continue. How about a first generation Wave versus its clone.

20200927_121817A by Chako, on Flickr

The clone has easy to spot brass nail nubs.

20200927_121918A by Chako, on Flickr

The clone does differ a bit with the tools hidden inside. I have always said that the first generation Wave was let down by its love affair with the flathead screwdriver. The clone attempted to fix that a little. Note that the clone got the Leatherman scissors down path.

I guess I can repost my SideClips I posted in the SideClips thread here.

1 shinny SideClip dated to 03, and two dull SideClips dated to 97 and 98 respectively.

I wonder which one I should go for next.

Here is the list thus far that I do not have on the Canadian side of the Leatherman website.

1. Black & Silver Wave +
2. Free T4 in 6 colours
3. Charge +
4. Black & Silver Signal
5. Free T2
6. Knifeless Rebar
7. Coyote Rebar
8. Wave + in 2 colours
9. Signal in 7 colours
10. Black & Silver Surge
11. Topo Signal.

I am thinking either the Topo Signal, or the two Rebars.

This was a more accurate count. I tried not to miss any this time around. Even I am a bit shocked at how large this has gotten.

I forgot to add the 4 Skeletool KBx/KB. It was on my paper list but didn't make the transfer to the computer for some reason.

So the total is 393.

I just bought a Free T2 and T4 off of Amazon.ca. Next will be the coloured ones off of Leatherman. I fear I will have to phone that order in when it is time to do so.

Noticed I missed the 4 MUT tools from my list. So the total is now at 393 + 4 = 397.
