Just got in the moss green Skeletool as well as two Skeletool KBX knives in green and columbian blue.

I probably should not have visited the Canadian Leatherman website. Looks like they are now selling to Canadians...not exactly the whole lineup, but I saw a few I would like to add to my collection. I think the plan is to slowly acquire a few here and there. It might be time to ween myself off of my self imposed 5 year sabbatical. I just wonder if they will accept a debit card as opposed to a credit card, which I no longer would like to use.

I do not have them all either.

I just pulled the trigger on a Charge + Forest Camo. I got that one off of Leatherman Canada. Should be interesting as it states on average 3 to 12 business days.

Now that I know they will accept a debit card as a Visa...I will be buying a few more items from them sooner or later.

That figures. Not a big fan of the new look.

Also a bit surprised to find out that Leatherman no longer owns Led Lenser. Am I correct to assume that Leatherman no longer does flashlights?

Here is an interesting piece...

And another interesting piece...

IMG_9083A by Chako, on Flickr

IMG_9084A by Chako, on Flickr

The first is a factory error. The second, I had to order from Denmark...which was no small feat at the time as the official Leatherman dealer really did not want to send me anything over the ocean. I must have been persuasive as they eventually relented. It helped that I bought one of everything I could at the time. If you look through the Leatherman drawers, and if you know what to look for, you should be able to spot the rest.

Hmmm...

Not sure what to think about this one.

I was re-examining my Leatherman collection because I want to flesh things out with more modern pieces (being out of it for the past 5 years...when I got into firearms actually). I was on the Leatherman Canada site and just bought a Charge + G10 in red. So that should make two interesting Charges on their way to me soon I hope. I decided to take a closer look at my Charges as that appears to be my focus at this moment, and noticed something odd. For the life of me, I do not remember buying the one with the Damascus blade. Seriously.

Yeah...I did not know I had one.

Here are a couple more interesting items. Both of these are prototypes dating to 2009ish. The handle date codes are the same for both of them and are 2008s. At the time, Leatherman was toying with the idea of implementing the Damascus blades first seen on the 2009 Wave collector edition to their Charge lineup. Unfortunately, they didn't do this for several years afterwards...but Texas Toolcrafter sold them first with Damascus blades, even thought the quality of those blades are not as good as the official Leatherman ones or so I have read. I can just imagine how Leatherman felt about that. What makes these interesting is also the coating. At a quick glance, you would not be wrong to surmise that these are black oxide versions...but they are not. These are coated with a DLC (Diamond Like Coating) very much like the special 2009 Wave edition. I emailed Leatherman and they confirmed all of my suspicions. They even told me that there was only 1 prototype of the Damascus Charge, and two of the DLC only coated Charge.

IMG_9089A by Chako, on Flickr

This is what caught my eye when I got them home...and the reason why I sent Leatherman an email. Not BO but DLC.

I was curious and googled Leatherman Collection. I am always amazed at how many of my photos still show up. A very old one came up via pinterest. After following the crumbs, I came up with one of my earliest collection photos...back in the day when I used leather hides as my picture backgrounds.

Nice Charges, chako.   :tu:  :tu:  :tu:   :salute:

I have a DLC PST with 0997/0198 handles.  I have no idea whether the DLC was an early experiment by LM, or applied post-purchase by the owner.  It feels much nicer and more durable than the regular BO treatment, but I imagine it was much more expensive.

I have a CC PST where the handles seem like they have a DLC on it. 0397/0796   One handle more than the other but both are shiny black. I don't think they are but look it. The BO coating seems more like the Victorinox BO.

Interesting. I had a quick look at my 3 black PST, and must say they all appear to be black oxide to me. One has no date, the others are 90 and 96 respectively.

Only the one handle is different? Possible that because each side was made at a different time, their black oxide process was not consistent, or changed somehow? One side was DLCed? strange that.

No clue, but I do love learning something new.  :tu:
