Wave & Rebar mod
on: July 17, 2020, 05:20:12 PM
Modded my Rebar and Wave today, i removed awl from Rebar and replaced it with Small bitdriver. I earlier added scissors to my Rebar.

Added that removed awl to my Wave, needed to reorganize tools so i could awl to it, received today bit that can hold small bit, ordered it from Loki. Now i have toolset i wanted to my Wave.

It was bit pain to find right palce for awl cause i wanted to spare large flathead, it wasnt straight drop in place of small bitdriver.and awl. Placed awl to place of flathead, dropped flathead palce of can opener and can opener place of small bitdriver.

Nice! It reminds me of the new ST300M, albeit a smaller format; a "Mini 300M"!

It's nice to see someone (else than myself ) making great use of the fact that the Wave and Rebar share tang/lock profiles (apart from the Wave's blades, that is; ST300 and Surge do, too (same caveat)). Pity that such is not the case anymore with more of the newer LM offerings...
Cheers!

Okey now i have finalised my mods to Rebar and Wave, changed awl and phillips to Wave also removed both bit holdets away since im carrying vics bitkit and L wrench.

Mods to Rebar was adding Wave bit holders to it, also added scissors to it, removed awl and phillips to make room for bitholders and scissors.

Heres final forms of these 2, tried to add Rebar pliers to Wave but noticed that it required permanent modification to pliers and i didntwant to do that.

Now after long wait i modded my Waves SE blade as chisel, first it didnt work as i wanted cause chisel wasnt straight but grinded bit more and made it straighter and now it works way i wanted.

Now need to sand it down little to give it better look

Great job. I just wanted to ask how did you manage to add the scissors on the rebar frame without grinding it. I tried the same but no way to snap close the tool and it was no way for me to grind the scissors because i prefer it the way it is.Anyway if i dont find a way to add it like it is maybe i grind it but not before i am 100% sure about it. Anyway it is a  great job you did there if you ever have the time to explain how i am waiting for an answer. Have a nice day and good moddings :)

Adding scissors on this mod was easier cause i removed phillips, you need to re-organize tools to fit scissors without problems.
Try add scissors between blade and file, change large flathead and medium flathead with each other so scissors handle wont get gaught on medium flathead.  So tool order should be blade, medium flathead, awl, large flathead, scissors and file.
If you take lanyard loop away you can put can opener there and then change phillips next to serrated blade and add scissors between phillips and saw.
I noticed that there is differences between tools, other may fit much more easily scissors than other.

Is the rebar held together with rivets, rather than screws?

If so whats your tips for dealing with these when modfing.

Thanks

Not Rivets , they are  proprietary bolts

Oksy today tinkered again my Wave, now removed SE blade and added Wingman scissors. Changed Rebar pliers to it and added both bitdrivers back.

I shall call this LiteSurge

Okey tinkered Wave again, now removed scissors and small bitdriver. Added Waves scissors back also SE blade was installed. Reason i removed Wingman scissors away cause theose scissors are bad and i really mean it, couldnt cut even paper properly.

Necroing this again, now Wave and Rebar got new tools again cause last configuration didnt feel right. I may need mod Wave one more time (still feels little off)
Now Wave have all regular outside tools, gen 2 pliers (orginals)
Inside tools: modded can opener, Rebar phillips, Rebar Awl, microbit driver, large flathead.

Rebar tools
Orginal saw, File, Serrated Blade, PE Blade, Phillips and small flathead.
Waves Large Bitdriver, Scissors.
And as new tool hacksaw.
Changed screw for hacksaw side to Gerber MP800 (same pivot size but bit longer) added first lanyard but it wasnt ideal so i removed it (it made tools tight or loose when spinning and that wasnt ideal)

Modding hacksaw was quite simple, hardest part was getting pivot right size. Leatherman pivot size is roughly 4.7mm and i only had 4,5mm and 5mm drills so i needed to drill 4.5mm hole and then just file rest until it was right size. Next what needed to do was make locking notch to hacksaw, i did it with PST2 and metalfile when lock notch was ready need  to round it like other tools (tried without doing that and opening was problem). After rounding hacksaw also noticed that i need bit also file/sand saw side otherwise it get stuck to bottom since it layed too low.
Also it was first sided with file but it was annoyingly hard to lift there since it has no nailnick so i changed side of Serrated blade and now lifting is easy and it still doesnt interfier with pliers. Also changed flathead and phillips place.

Hacksaw may see bit modding mainly cosmetic mod but nothing else.

I may try mod my ST300 too but bit bigger and better hacksaw (heavy duty)
