First SAK Mod — Success!

I find myself using the scissors more than any other tool, and I’ve often considered making a scissors-only knife (along with a corkscrew, to nest the ever-handy micro screwdriver). It was a rainy day today, so I hitched up my trousers and decided to get after it.

It was fairly straightforward, and I only made one unrecoverable error: *after* I’d finished peening the center pin I realized I’d left the bushing off the back side. Oops!  Thankfully the scales are held securely by the end pins, I can live with this invisible mistake.

This was a pretty simple little project, but I’m inordinately pleased.

It works well enough. The corkscrew sits ever so slightly proud when closed, but not enough to matter, and there is a minor reduction in the closing tension of the scissors.

This is great!  I hear you on the utility of the scissors.  I use mine all the time, too and love the idea of pocket-friendly daily scissors setup.  Well done Frailer!

I should add that the task was made much easier for this novice by this marvelous little hammer I stumbled across at a flea market last year. The seller (a collector of old tools) and I couldn’t determine whether it was originally designed for a jeweler, a tinker, a child, or someone else. In any case, it is perfect for peening small pins.

It is indeed a beautiful thing, and it was love at first sight. I didn’t even haggle over the price (which, thankfully, was not unreasonable).
