I will have to admit that I love Victorinox's offerings in the multi-tool market. Top quality fit and finish throughout. As you can tell, I have a sweet spot for the Swiss Tool.  :D

No clue actually. Maybe someone with more Victorinox knowledge might know. What I do know is that the knife is not on SakWiki as far as I can tell. The pliers are a bit awkward to use due to the wide handles. Still an ingenious design.

I think that old vic plier/sak set is cool, maybe a skeletool with a sak would work just as well and also include a locking blade.

Love that SAK/pliers combo, wish they could have re-released a new variety of the sheath for some pliers with a little more convential shape. (And no reason to include a knife, they have plenty to choose from. :D )

Sort of a modern day version of the TE-33 which included the TL-29. http://www.us-militaria.com/en/L-equipement-des-soldats/transmissionsette-33 (random link found by websearch)

Hello, just a quick question... does the swisstool corkscrew also fit the spirit? or is there a different one for the spirit.

I only ask because as far as I can tell the product numbers seem the same for both. Yut the one I got with my original 1997 Swisstool does not fit in the spirit (the hole on the Spirit is too small). When I look on line I can only seem to find one seller at a reasonable price (part titled B.1013) and says it is for the Swisstool but does not mention if it fits the spirit model. When I emailed the seller, they responded "I don't know!" So I am a little nervous to pull the trigger on a $20 dollar corkscrew (inc. shipping) if it is not going to fit the Spirit. My female counter part would give me life shortening stink eye, promptly fallowed by a devistating eye roll that can castrate a man at 20 paces!

The corkscrew fits both the Swisstool and the Spirit. The piece is inserted differently for both however. The larger Swisstool hole allows you to insert the corkscrew socket either way. On the Sprit...you need to orient the flat part of the corkscrew socket to the flat part found on the Spirit.

I've long admired that set. Really interesting in that the pliers supplied have the exact same shape and design as the SwissTool's.  I'm going to mod the "Practical Craftsman", and sew up a sheath. The CS-34 pouch from the US Army Signal Corps may work as is. But, I am making the pouch fit a 91mm SAK and 6.5" linesman's pliers.

While my ST300 may be better with gloves, the SwissTool is better for most of the heavier jobs. First of all, I like the locking mechanism better. The tools are outside opening on the SwissTool, while internal on the ST300. Gripping down on the handle when using an exterior tool is painful on my Surge, but not the SwissTool. Working with fencing, the SwissTool's pliers shape is much better, and excels at mounting T-Post binding clips. The file is super-agressive on the Swiss Tool, and the saw teeth on the file can cut through most any steel that is not hardened. I have cut fencing wire when needed with the SwissTool's metal saw.
