Evolution Pliers Fail
on: August 04, 2020, 09:55:54 PM
I was turning a bolt with these pliers when I slipped off and the springbar slid to the right. It went back to where it was supposed to be after I opened the pliers up. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

That doesn't look very good! I have a Wenger with pliers. Playing with them just now, I see no problem playing with them just now. But then I've never used them for their intended purpose.

However, I had a pair of Wenger scissors do this because the pivot screw was too loose. How tight is the pivot? Does it look like the spring is bent? The springs on my pliers and scissors do sail close to the edge of the handles.

The pivot is a little wobbly. Kind of disappointing since I just this SAK today

Never had this happen on one of mine, but I must say that I only use them on very small bolts that don't require a lot of force.

Still, this shouldn't happen.

Hope this is not another indication of the possible diminishing quality of Victorinox...

I would not call that a fail.

If you twist either handle or the spring unnaturally or the tool is subject to a rapid movement/misuse - eg by slipping off a bolt -  This sort of thing is going to happen
And if it slots back into place when you open the pliers ........ sorted
And/or it may need a little twist or bend to get it back into shape.

Multutool tools are never going to be equivalent to regular tools in terms of strength/robustness - Especially SAK pliers compared to regular pliers or wrenches, or even regular full sized multitool pliers

A similar thing happens on the Vic springs from time to time - ie it slips out past the handle - And you just slot it back into place

Hardly a warranty issue ......... IMHO
