Adding Toothpick (or Tweezer) inside a Midnite MiniChamp

First: I know that a 58 mm is not the best candidate to modify, but after buying a second hand Midnite MiniChamp, I was really missing the toothpick or tweezer.

After some research, I found this thread made by George S, which saved me some time, avoiding the need to sacrify a Classic to test like he does. Thanks man  ;)

Second: this my really first step in modifying a knife, so be indulgent...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe it's a first time, but all the enlarging/carving process on my Midnite MiniChamp’s scale has been done
using... the Midnite MiniChamp small blade itself: as I was at the office, it’s the only tool I had with me ;)

You may notice that I choose to pop the toothpick out on the opposite side of the pencil, rather than beside (like George S. made).

This decision has been taken for aesthetic reasons and also for less weakening the scale with two holes side by side.

I just gave a try with the "tracheotomy tool", but the small blade was better

And the carving process continue...

Sandpaper to clean the carved space

Putting the scale flat on the table, just to verify everything is working fine

Rounded a part the head of the toothpick, just to better follow the curve of the scale

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then all I could do at the office was done and I had to wait until I got home, to flatten out the part of the knife
where the toothpick would slide. So I drilled the rod head (ruined the bushing btw) and then using a small hammer,
just flattened the remains of the rod to lay it flat and widen it a bit for better grip

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And voila: I can now carry a toothpick in the scale of my Midnite MiniChamp
I've also modified a tweezer, rounding its head and thining/sharpening its ends (no picture of it with me, sorry)

Wow! I was expecting some kind of toothpick thinning, so it could be carried between some of the tools. This is way more elaborated! Nice work! Thanks for sharing the whole process!

As it was hard for me to decide between toothpick or tweezer, I choose the path and
And because the Vic tweezer's head is way too big, I have used a Wenger one and now I can proudly claim that my EDC Midnite Minichamp carry toothpick AND tweezers

I like how you sacrificed a 4th bushing.

I figured out how to piggyback Wenger Tweezers in the 91mm Vic Tweezer slot to share with a FireFly ferro rod. It does require making the slot deeper, and even then, it’s a tight fit. The angles almost match perfectly with the liner, which could use an inconspicuous flat spot to make it fit better.

Since then, I have added both tweezers and toothpick from a Wenger knife, as they're really lower than the Vic ones and sits better in the Midnight MiniChamp  ;)

Now that you've had it for a while, any issue with that fourth rod that you filed down coming loose?

TBH, after putting the toothpick/tweezers from the Wenger one (thinner combo), I glued the scale on the three remaining rods and it doesn't move at all, perfect for my EDC tasks.
In fact this MiniChamp is the one I carry the most with me as I totally forgot about it, until I need some tool.

I'm glad it's held up for you.

I keep my Mini Champ on a suspension clip in my pocket and it goes pretty unnoticed most of the time, too.

I wondered about that also.
Love how you added everything to it. Well done.
