Place to purchase individual SAK tools?
on: October 01, 2020, 08:55:08 AM
I snapped one of my sissor blades in half on my SAK... so I need to mod it back to its original condition. Hopefully this is still considered a "mod".

Are there any vendors out there that sell replacement tools? Even if they aren't original Victorinox or Wenger parts, I'd love to fix it without having to buy an entire new knife to sacrifice... any help/suggestions would be welcomed.

No,
Spare parts aren't available through retailers.
However, many members here have leftover parts and I'm sure someone will have some spare scissors.

Also keep in mind you have a lifetime warranty.
Get your SAK back to Victorinox and they will refurbish it like new, free of charge.
They'll only charge shipping costs to get it back to you.

A picture might make it easier to get help. And faster.

Is the damage to the ‘active’ leaf? The side that moves? Or the side that is pinned into the rest of the knife?

Is it a screw or rivet connection?

If you aren’t intent on doing the fix yourself, a trip to Victorinox might make much more sense as suggested previously. Repair or replacement might even be free. Good luck either way.

Thanks for all the tips guys... unfortunately I don't have a good picture of the broken part, but essentially the "active" side's handle broke off about 3/16" below the riveted joint.

Also, it would probably be good to point out that this SAK is a knock-off (China?) that I got with my dad a as a kid... I'm fixing it more for the sentimental value. I'm assuming that Victorinox won't fix something that isn't theirs.

At this point, I believe I have two options. (1) pay a jewelry/laser welder to tack on the broken section or (2) find a "donor" knife and do a swap out.

In the time of COVID, I feel like the responsible thing to do for "non-essential" work, such as this, would be option 2.

As always, I'm slowly learning, so any suggestions are welcome!

Best thing, if possible, might be to find another knock-off to steal parts from.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

:iagree:  SAKalikes are easy to come by for the most part on line like the bay of fleas.  That would be my first option.  If the pivot is a screw then easy enough if its a peened part then that would be a little more effort but not to bad.

I hope I'm understanding the damage correctly.
