Sorry Nix, but you're wrong on the revised rule 8. "Parmesan optional."  Parmesan is never optional it is a requirement.

So here's an adventure photo.  This was taken in Turkey Run State Park near Marshall, Indiana, USA.  I grew up not too far from there, and it seemed we always went there a couple of times a year.  National parks seem to get all the press, and they do feature some truly breathtaking natural wonders.  However, state parks may be a bit under-utilized/under-appreciated in my opinion, as many of them offer outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities that are closer to home than some might think...

I do hope a paragraph per trip is ok...

Thomas Crean (that's with an n, not an m), a bit of a national hero here in Ireland.
Wikipedia: Tom Crean (explorer)

He was a part of not one, not two, but three Antarctic expeditions and had a distinguished Navy career.

The first, he was one of the sled pullers (human sled pulling?  ??? maybe there's a reason why Roald used dogs and got to the south pole first  :D ) and gained the esteem of Robert Scott and Ernest Shackleton. He also made three trips across the Ross Ice Shelf. He finally left Antarctica with the majority of the party when the ice melted and their ship was freed (after three years ). Shackleton had to return home early on the first relief ship.

The second was the infamous Scott expedition. He was with the party all the way to the beginning of the final stage, less than 200km from the south pole. In hindsight, it was lucky that Scott didn't pick him to be one of the final 5 that proceeded to the south pole.  :o
After the winter, Crean was with the party that went back and found most of the bodies of Scott's team. They then returned home with the diaries and such.

Tom was well respected in that expedition for pushing ahead of the return party with some biscuits and no tent to get to a depot fast, as the party had a gravely ill man that needed the chaps in the depot to send out sleds and such.

By this time, Crean had a bit of a rep. And so Shackleton selected him for his infamous expedition to cross Antarctica via the south pole. The mission suffered a series of mishaps, and the trek never took place. But perhaps it was all the more known because of that, rather like Apollo 13?

I know I’m already on the list for “Wild Man” entry, but I noticed my post was one of the ones that was lost so I’m posting again because I think she is a very inspiring person.

Karen Darke

She became paralyzed from the chest down after falling on a rock-climbing expedition in 1992 at the age of 21.  Instead of giving up in the hospital when she thought she would rather be dead than paralysed; she has continued her adventures while exploring both new areas and new realms of what is possible.

In addition to being a Paralympian, she has crossed Greenland’s ice cap sitting on skis, using her arms to propel her; kayaked from Canada to Alaska over three months, and handcycled across or around 6 of the 7 continents.  Antartica is the only one she hasn’t, but it is planned for 2021-2022 as one of the last accomplishments in her “Quest 79”.  “Quest 79” is her quest to ride seven continents, with nine rides (one for each continent plus the two Paralympic games) while raising money for the Spinal Injuries association.

“See life as a giant adventure, to learn and grow with, and seek the gifts that hide within the challenge”.

Wild Woman - Jade Hameister

Jade Hameister OAM (born 5 June 2001) is an Australian woman who, at age 16, became the youngest person in history to pull off the "polar hat-trick", ski to the North and South Poles, and cross the second largest polar icecap on the planet: Greenland. Hameister travelled over 1,300 km on these three missions, which totalled almost four months on ice.

She made her trolls a sandwich and dared them to come get it from the South Pole. Legend

I'm gonna go with a man who some might know, but still is a bit unknown when it comes to the modern Wild Men.

This is Kevin Estela

https://kevinestela.com/

In short this is a guy who advocates carrying a SAK (never leaves home without his trusty Ranger), is an author for American Survival Guide, American Frontiersman and Survivor’s Edge, among others.
In 2019 he published a book under the title 101 Skills you need to survive in the woods.

Between holding wilderness survival classes, going on expeditions and hunting trips and diving, he is always easily reachable through his social media pages where he will often take time to answer as many questions as possible.

When his approach is concerned he favors utilitarian over flashy or complex. As first mentioned he is an advocate for SAKs, a simple ferro rod, gives out product recommendations that he has personally tested. And if we can tell something about the man by what carries his name then you might be interested to know that he has designed two blades - the Polaris and the Estela Bolo made by Gossman knives
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

I believe this is a Polaris:

I sometimes forget the names of some knife models....hard enough to keep track of awl the SAK models! But I'm 99% sure this is a Polaris. Gossman makes a simple knife that is simply excellent.  :tu:
