Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Hello all.  This great thread is not forgotten.  I came back to read up and talk a bit about the knife I won.  I thought about a new thread but this one also deserves a bump.

I carried the Bushcrafter a lot after getting it.  It was sharp but I cannot leave edges alone.  All the talk about 3V being difficult didn't prove to be the case for me  :dunno:.  I stropped the smurf out of it as well.  It came out amazing and as we say is hair shaving sharp.  This is my first experience with CPM3V and I was excited after reading a lot on it.  In the first few weeks of owning it I did basic chores with it.  We have been getting a lot of items delivered so theres lots of cardboard to break down to fit our receptacle.  We also got a few very heavy duty boxes that larger items came in.  I understand this knife is an outdoor knife.  The grind and design is primarily for Bushcrafting.  Yeah yeah yeah.  So how'd it do?  My go to knife at home has been my Benchmade Contego in S30V.  I also use a Esee Izula in 1095 around the house as well.  Any knife should be able to cut and while these 3 are very different both my BM and Esee are performers of many tasks.  How did my Bushcrafter do?  Come on now, it did excellent.  I used this knife to break down some crazy heavy duty cardboard and it ate it up.  I am not one who "tests" edge retention but I know when my knives cutting has slowed or lessened.  CPM3V impressed but that was at home..... how would it do in its environment?  More on that later.

I love the sheath on this knife.  Its sits low but with plenty of handle to grip to remove plus I added a bright orange lanyard.  The leather gives great snug retention with a positive feel when removing and replacing.  I love leather sheaths.  I added a drop loop dangle carry thingy.  I like my knives to sit just a bit lower than how sheaths are normally set up.  Leather takes on a wonderful look with use and handling.  I've carried and handled this sheath a lot and it looks great still.  I did treat it to some sno-seal .  Again I cannot leave well enough alone.  Nix added a ferro rod which I appreciate.  I added a orange lanyard to it.  I used paracord to attach my dangle loop to the sheath so I now have a bit of cordage when out and about.   It not a pretty set up but its very functional.

The handle.  WOW its gorgeous.  I would not have chosen this color and that would be a real shame since I do really love it.  On a side note, after getting this knife and loving the handle color so much I now look at colors I would not give consideration to.  I guess I am used to certain handle colors so this is a very pleasant change for me.  The handle is very confortable.  When getting a new knife I always hold the knife in each hand and in different cutting positions.  While I watch TV I hold the knife.  I can tell straight away if it is not a good it for me.  I am ambidextrous and switch hands quite often when cutting.  I am primarily left handed but for some reason I do switch back and forth.  Bark River does a great job on their handles.  Its smooth and well shaped.  The handle thins towards the blade with a very slight flair.  There is also a very slight flair at the lanyard tube.  My thumb sits nicely when I hold the knife in a certain grip.  There is a slight "guard" where my index finger nicely sits.  At the back there is a ramp where my little finger snuggles in.  I feel the knife fits my hand very well.  No negatives on the handle at all.

I was surprised at the size and weight.  Not in a bad way mind you.  At 8 1/2 inches overall its a good size.  The cutting edge is 3 3/4 inches with a handle gripping area of 4 1/8 inches.  The balance pint of the knife is at about 3 1/8 from the back of the knife so its handle heavy.  You feel its handle heavy upon picking it up.  My Old Hickory is very similar in terms of the balance point as is my BM Contego as well as my little KJ Mora.  Interesting.  The all have about the same gripping area to cutting edge area.  Now this is not measured precisely but I do feel each have a similar hand feel in balance.

A little more in a bit.
