Fixing a Couple Leatherman MINIs
« on: August 31, 2020, 12:06:59 PM »
As the title says, I sourced some new old stock old school LM parts (from a very reputable source ;) ) to fix a couple problems on 2 different  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINIs!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh that I have :salute:

I started out by getting everything out and ready  Both of the tools and their respectable replacements and my loki wrenches :tu:

Here is the first one. The blade tip was chipped on it when I bought it (I knew this when I bought it ;) ) and I reprofiled it back then, it was serviceable but always bothered me a bit :ahhh :D

Now as good as new :dd: This was perhaps the easiest blade swap I have ever done on any tool :o Literally loosened and removed the screw, push the barel screw back past the blade, the blade fell out and then put the new blade in and push the barrel screw back through and put the knurled screw back on and tightened it :o :like: Viola, new blade replaced :dd: :D

Next I replaced a handle with advertisement on this one  Advertisements are fine but I rather replace it if given a chance  and since I was given the chance... I replaced it :D

Here is the before :salute:

and after finally breaking the very stubborn loctite :ahhh it was a simple process of swapping the knife and the inner handle over to the new handle, getting the old handle off the plier head and then putting the new handle on the plier end side with the 2 different sized washers. Done and Done :tu:

The new handle looks shinier in the pic than what it really is  after a bit of pocket carry I am sure it will match exactly  Also of note, the new old stock part handle is about a year older than the handle it replaced :salute: so it is well within what would normally be on a tool of that era

These are both users and I am much happier in how they are now :like: :like:

I have never taken a  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh apart until yesterday evening and I was amazed at how simple they actually are for as complicated as they seem to be  (well complicated with how the handles fold into themselves and make such a small footprint ;) ) They are probably the LM with the least amount of parts that I have ever taken apart :o Another reason that I love them :D :like:

:like: Well done.  I am not the biggest fan of advertisement handle but if I really want to tool I'll get it.  Good to be able to finally sort your minis out.

Great refurb job!!!

I'm gonna have to get Loki's wrenches.  I recently redid a pair of Kershaw A100s that used knurled screws like LM, and used Vise Grips and a tiny pair of Channellock pliers.  As expected, those tools chewed up the screws.

Thanks Aloha, Steve and cody

Very glad to get those 2 to where they are now :tu:

cody, those loki wrenches are well worth the money and have helped me considerably with working on several of my LM :salute: Very handy and make modding much more enjoyable :D
