I'd look around for a good price for the Squirt PS4.  A clear case of getting what you pay for.

I already have one, but I think I may pick up a couple extras. Used prices on them are actually a lot less than the Dime, and even in my opinion, it's a better tool. More drivers, better steel, and a real file that can work on most non-hardened metals.

I'd like the Dime a whole lot better if it had a decent file and decent scissors. Yes, the scissors can cut...ok, but they are HORRIBLE for use on fingernails.
If I could get some Victorinox 58mm scissors in there I'd do it, in my opinion, they are THE best small scissors.
And the file on mine couldn't file the lumps off a rice pudding, it's just some scratch marks in the surface.
I don't know if the green and red ones without the black coating are better.
When I bought mine, it was about half the price of the Squirt at just over $25. Now a Squirt is close to $100 and the dime is maybe 1/3ish.
Everything else has worked ok considering its limitations. I even managed to open a coconut with it on the Cook Islands, so it is not a useless tool.
A Dime with a LM Style or Vic nailfile, and Vic 58mm scissors would be alright.

That's my Dime minus 8 Cents worth

I use mine quite a bit when fishing. I can keep it in my pocket and don’t have to go looking for my other pliers to dig a swallowed hook out.

Had one for a brief time. Then gave it away, I didn't use it for very much but the few times I did I don't have any complaints. Personally though, if I want a small keychain, tool I have either a wenger Esquire or vic classic. Takes up less space :tu:

Er yes.

Here's the little dime I got.... I may take it to work with me for a day or two and see just how horrible it can be.  ::)

Basically, that's what I do. Aside from really old items purchased just for the collection, I always test drive new additions for a few days.

You know, it surprises me how knives you think are pretty bad end up being quite good.   I once expected a smallish Cabela's-branded folder I got as a gift to not be much. I admit, I did want this model when the Cabela's website had them on sale for $10, but I didn't expect much even then. The action is very smooth, the size is decent, and the steel a little cheap, but about what I expect for a sub-$20 knife.

I never considered the DIME as a potential small EDC, but after breaking a Squirt P4 screwdriver while tinkering in a server room (but the Micra got the job finally done, without any damage.)
So I got a bunch of pre-used Dimes for testing :
It really looks like a cheap tool at first glance, but I found it quite good in use!
The packet opener is handy, same goes for the cap lifter...
I like the tweezers too!
In fact, it does better than the squirt,... and I don't mind breaking/loosing it as it is not "nice".

I think that's a good way of looking at it.  :tu:

Everything is relative.  The Gerber Dime is far better than a handful of nothing, and can be quite useful.  Its not awesomely engineered, but also is not very expensive and seems to be pretty durable.  The PS4 is "better" in most respects, but Little Timmy has been raising the price on PS4's so consistently over the years (along with the entire Leatherman lineup), that I am disincentivized to recommend them. [I paid $28 for a PS4 in 2010, and they are now $39.95]. #outpacinginflation

But a dude with a Gerber Dime in his pocket is more prepared than 99% of his peers, and that's not bad thing.

After convincing myself that there was going to be a purple Gerber Dime shortage a few years ago, I bought several of them.

Squirts are RRP $100 here, on the Aus LM website. I'd love to know how much import duty gets slapped on..... beyond exchange rate, that is a massive mark up

I'd buy a squirt for AU$40, it'd be the cheapest I'd ever bought.

Squirts are "only" like 45-50€ here (and much more at local retailers...)  while Dimes are like 20-30€ which makes them a really better deal
