Day 19

(Image removed from quote.)

My EDC came along hiking. Picture of the Pioneer only, it is the most photogenic  :D

Also used the Pioneer to cut some cheese for a summit snack
Beautiful scenic and great capture! :like:

I know.  There is nothing quite like being 13 and hearing “Sherry, go find your brother’s finger”.
But he handled it well growing up.  It gave him an excuse if caught flipping someone off (I was just pointing).
Also, he learned a ketchup pack and pin to prick it could make for a good practical joke
much to my mother’s dismay.
That's not something one could easily forget, but kids are amazing and they sure have ways to deal with it their own ways. :tu:

I got attacked by a goose when I was a wee lad. Scary! Who knew those things could be so vicious!?
I too have similar experience when I was young.  Besides being territorial, I think there was an explanation because of how they 'see'?  But I've long forgotten the science behind it.

Day 20

I was using my flashlight in the room, trying to find something without waking up Mrs.  The E1E is nice, but the inability of adjusting brightness has it's downfall too.

I think there's a thread discussing how hook is 'useless', I see that come up from time to time.  I used to work at a barn a long, long time ago, and did remember how uncomfortable the hay bale wire was if you have to carry it a long way.  I didn't know the hook on SAK has such use, but it would have been a God sent back then.

It is funny you mention the hook use.  Just tonight/morning my wife saw me using the hook of my Yeoman to pull out the hot rack of the toaster oven.  She was confused what I was using my knife for until I showed her that was how I avoided getting burned getting stuff out.

Haha, please tell your, ahem, friend Nix that they’re apparently not very good eating

"One term I've heard is 'when you cook a bush turkey in a pot, throw away the bush turkey and eat the pot,"

Although another article says they’re delicious as are the eggs (good size the eggs as per my pic earlier in the week).

Although very common where I live they’re a protected species

…unless you mean the kookaburra they’re delicious ;)

Interesting Eco  :tu:

I have a few different ones.

Vector Thunderbird butane inserts have been out for a while.  I have had two single torch and a soft flame.  One of the torch ones failed me after about a years worth of use.  The plastic case leaks, which I think is because it got too cold once when refilling.  The other two inserts have been great through a few years so far.

I’ve had two of the Zippo single torch and the ARC.  The Zippo look better made because of the metal case, but one of the torch inserts is sporadic now on lighting, but the other has been going good for a year.  I’m not a big fan of the ARC so it hasn’t seen much use.

The one that I just recently picked up and have been really liking is a dual soft flame/single torch.  It is a Yusud (found on Amazon).  Time will tell how reliable it is, but so far I like it. Here is a quick video showing it.

Now that's an interesting one! Thanks for the video  :tu:

Ranger file and wood saw to teach my son how to make wood joints using ice cream sticks.
(And some tools of his mini tool box)

He made this square. (Who made me very happy)

The Wine Master and Fiat-Allis money clip on the dash instead of a Bible ;)

Both were needed for purchasing and stripping the Christmas tree. Apparently I have so many house chores that I can’t spare the time to go and fetch one myself..

That's surely a legit use, which reminded me my favorite use of the LM pliers when going camping is lifting hot pot lid.  Now I could probably minimize to a SAK.  :tu:

I've used my MT pliers as a pot lifter, too. (SAK pliers work well for light pots/lids.)   :tu:

Other SAK tools: Hook for lifting a pot or lid bail (if the bail is reasonably thin). Can Opener for popping a lid off or snagging a bail. The Bottle Opener works too, but the Can Opener is more secure. Fish Scaler is great for lifting a lid or grabbing a small ring-bail on a lid. The scaler can lift a pot, too, but I worry about the leverage and try to snag the bail between a set of teeth close to the handle, not the tip.

I'm sure there are other SAK tools that work for manipulating a hot pot, but those are the ones I've used the most.   :tu:

I think I was intruding on the goose's territory at the time. But I'm not really sure what triggers an attack. I just try to be wary around them.

I understand that some places will use geese as "Watch Dogs" because they are loud and aggressive about their territories.   :dunno:

Were you carrying your "breakfast" with you at the time?

(BTW, breakfast at Chez Nix this morning was Huevos rancheros. The kind of breakfast that gives you plenty of energy, but is so filling that you are unlikely to win a foot race with a goose or duck.....)

One of my uncles had geese.
They're indeed good at watching the territory and alarming the flock when strangers approach.
They're also very good lawn mowers  :tu:

From my encounters, I've never seen them quiet.  But I agree, they probably are better motion detector than all the high tech gadgets we have nowadays.

Just out of curiosity, I saw this on youtube.  Man, it will suck if being chased by ostrich.
