The Tool(s) That Got Away (Damn you Ebay)
on: January 10, 2009, 11:03:20 AM
I am starting a new thread for those amongst us who are experiencing grief due to loss of a tool or knife we thought would be ours . My tools that got away in the last 10 days were 1. a Kershaw A100 multitool and 2. a NIB Autotool. I thought I had the Autotool ,as I went $20 higher than the previous Autotool that the same seller  had sold went for (Andy you lucky smurf  :D) . So let the healing begin , or you can just sell me the fore mentioned tools for a very cheap price & my grief will be no more  :P :D :D

Just remember, there'll always be another chance. :tu:  Well, on most stuff there will  :-\

I get beaten on eBay almost everyday.  I am exceptionally miserly with my bids though :D

As a SAK collector the nice thing is that even the rare ones normally had a run of thousands, so the chances are its just a matter of being patient and another will turn up.  There was a ribbed Voyageur up a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't being advertised as such as the seller didn't know what he'd got.  I bid up to around $70.  For a while it looked like I was going to get it but the price doubled at the auctions end  :-\  Ho hum, next time.

There was a really nice Tiffany Climber up before Christmas but I'm also a realist, no point bidding, I just don't have the kind of money it takes to go after stuff like that.  Most of my really cool SAKs have been aquired by buying unseen lots and finding pearls amongst the Classics and Spartans :)

I 2 bid on many things and think I have them and at the last second literally I have lost it :(0 It seems almost unfair at the time but as Neil said before ya just gotta be patient (that is usually when I get the best deals)  :tu:

Multi tools I have lost on ebay 0. That is because I have only got one off the Ebay site. However I have been sniped many times there on PEZ. I cant count on how many occasions I have lost out on one because of it. I have however come to the realisation tht convienient as ebay is there are online stores you can getmost stuff cheaper.

I have lost the odd one but nothing I was too worried about.  Everything I have really wanted I have got as I have stuck on a huge bid and probably paid too much for.

As an opposite to that, isn't it nice when you see something you really want, chuck a big bid in and then no one else is interested and you get it for a fraction of what you were prepared to pay.

That happened to me about a year ago with a Vic Sportratchet. I bid the minimum $15 and forgot about it. Surprise surprise, no one else bid! 8)

Hey, speaking of cheap eBay Sportratchets:

I don't tend to get upset if I'm outbid, as I always decide what an item is worth to me, then bid. Que sera sera. If I lose it, it was simply more than I was prepared to pay!

The way I miss out is usually by forgetting all about it, which I do a lot.
I used to come here a lot.

Clucking hell , missed out on a new Sportsratchet  . I was prepared to pay $46us for it  :o . I got out snipered by a ebay vet. I did win a poor mans Switchplier , the Stanley SL40 for $1.00 , TBH would have much preferred the Vic. psycoratchet .

It's funny like that

You can bid on something you really want in a thousand different auctions and never win it but bid once on something you don't care about and you'll win it everytime ;) :D
