I love that one Jack.  So let's call this the "May the Folder be With You" challenge and it will be a 30 day folding hunter challenge.  (30 day FH) I don't want to limit this to locking hunters because that excludes the folks that aren't allowed locking knives, and unlike the Buck 110 challenge I don't want to exclude anyone.  So, as long as a knife is close in size and shape to a Buck 110, locking or not, it can be in this challenge.  The challenge is not open to multibladed traditional knives like a stockman or trapper, or to tactical knives.  To qualify the knife must be a folding hunter that is as close as possible to being a Buck 110 but is not a Buck 110 and that's it.  Take a picture every day and try not to use any other knife for the whole month.

I think Future EB would want Present EB to agree with this idea... rather than my other idea of the Foolish Fools of April Fooling Around Foolishly.  In retrospect, a folding hunter challenge is an event in it's own right.  I agree that you will want to separate it from Traditionals.

Local knife laws may become an issue... so I'm sure accommodations will be made.

I'm going to have to think about this one...  My folding hunter (pictured herein, if it even is one) only gets used at the campsite, and its probably illegal where I am due to blade length.

Yes. If you want to admit to being just as foolish as those carrying a Buck 110 in April, but you don't have a Buck 110, then you are welcome to join us in this challenge.  :pok:

Are we overlapping it with the Fools of April... or moving it to May?

I'm on the fence, having just done a challenge with more knife than I need... But I really do need to get re-acquainted with my Camillus.

The Folding Hunter (Not a Buck 110) challenge has been scheduled for May.  May the Folder be With You.

It will take place here in this thread.  If anyone else wants to join in, just add your name to the list below.

The rules are simple.  If you have a folding hunter that is of a similar size, shape, and weight to a Buck 110, locking or not, but is not a Buck 110 it is welcome in this challenge.  Not acceptable, of course, are Buck 110s, and multi-blade SAKs such as the 111mm and 130mm models because they all have their own collector and challenge badges.

Might be a good idea to change the title of the thread to   " The Folding Hunter (Not a Buck 110) challenge "

Steve, can you take care of changing the title please.  I can't edit that as far as I'm aware.

I think I'm going with a Gerber Gator for this challenge.

I'm in. I still haven't decided between my Schrade USA 6OT or the Gerber Folding Sportsman II from the '70s. I'm leaning towards the 6OT because of the generous lanyard tube, and I love the LB-7 family's ergonomics. I'm leaning towards the Gerber because it is 440C (but just about 1/2 smaller than the Buck).

Didn't expect to see that one... Good ol' Nix, keeping things interesting.

Yep the Gerber Gator did have a reputation for being a Buck 110 replacement for outdoors types.

I almost bought a Gerber Gator a couple of years back. Something else caught my eye instead.  It should be a good carry.

My only concern with the Gator is that rubber does not wear well, and often gets tacky and/or falls off with age.

Went through a few gators years ago and found the steel sub par.
A friend had one that would take a good edge however I haven't been tempted to try the lottery again with them.
