Day 26, unboxing  :tu:

(Image removed from quote.)

Nice! The #6 is a little too small for me, #8 too big. #7 is my perfect size.

And it's an Opinel hawkbill without the big bulky handle of the pruner.

Day 27

I do have a fire alarm hooked up to the building management office, but here is a smaller one I installed somewhere closer to the stove.  Gonna love the 3M grey double-sided tape, so sticky and sturdy, it could literally stick anything onto the wall.

Cody, you probably know this, this double sided tape is absolutely perfect for securing the RC car steering servo, receivers and electronics.  Once on, those parts are never going anywhere.

I usually write the date I install them on the batteries in my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with a sharpie so that when I forget to change them every 6 months as recommended, and they finally need replacing after 2 years, I can look at the date and say, "wow, I can't believe it lasted this long."

Cool Opi Borg, not sure I've seen that before  :like: :like:
Seen the mushroom knife, garden version etc and have a load of them myself but don't think that one  :dunno:

It's not like im short of knives to cut chestnuts for roasting but i got this for that reason, to be honest though it would make a great garden or work knife, i really like it so will get another for general use and keep this one for the kitchen  :tu:

I would agree it's the perfect size,  you have great control of the blade for whittling or whatever and as you say when closed it isnt bulky, you hardly know the blade is there , because it hardly is  :D

That's great point, supposedly those smoke alarm also needs to be replaced every so many years(since the sensor may degrade).  I too used to write down the dates on all my flooding sensors and smoke detectors, but eventually all the batteries out live the 1 year I gave them.  So I just ended up being lazy and just let the low battery beep reminds me when it is time to replace them.

The Opinel oyster knife is on my list too, i far prefer the look of it to the Victorinox ones, interested to know how thick the blade is  :tu:

Day 28. Still doing the cleaning.

Found this J. Russell and Co., Green River Works wallpaper knife again (I don't know how it got in a box in the closet--SHOULD BE in my desk organizer). I think it's from the 1880s or 1890s. Got it in a box of assorted knives I'd bought for a folding EKA fillet knife, which was junk and worn out. This is among the oldest knives I own; I think the oldest. Both it and a pre-1891 Wostenholm four-bladed penknife I have are pre-1900; but their dates I've been unable to pin down to more than 10-15 years.

Walnut handles, brass collar, and some darn good steel. This thin blade takes a razor's edge.

Day 28, not a Buck 110 and not a Buck 112

(Image removed from quote.)

Who said great men thinks alike? :D
I measured the tang is roughly 2.4mm at the thickest part, then it taper out to the sides and towards the front, pretty much 0.8mm all around the edges, but it's blunt.  I really haven't put it to use, but based on some other ones I have used in the past, I have high hope for this one.

I only like the Opinel oyster knife for it's short blade length and profile looks to have good potential as a EDC knife, but personally, I don't see the need of having a folding oyster knife since all the gaps are bound to filled with slime, sooner than later then the knife is going to stink I think.
