MP600: Play in the jaws of the pliers

I bought two black oxide MP600 of ebay and when I checked their condition a few minutes ago I realised that the jaws of the pliers do have some play and don´t close evenly anymore. All my other MP600 and MP400 don´t have this issue. Is that normal wear after use or do they sometimes come from the factory like that? Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks in advance,

The main pivot has some play and is why the tips don't close even anymore. I guess they have been heavily used by the previous owner. 🤔

If we would have a Gerber service center in Europe I would just send it there. But sending it to the US isn't really an option. Too expensive etc. 🤷‍♂️

Although you said it's difficult/expensive, I'd try Gerber's warranty service first; it is excellent service, and since they're two tools maybe shipping and handling will be "cheaper" as it would be one package. If it is still not to your liking, you may try this

It has worked on two of my MP's, a PST II, and a 2nd. Gen. Wave which had loose pliers pivot.

Thanks a lot for the link and the info.  I tried it with a stone chisel but it didn´t work (yet). Going to buy a perfectly fitting drift punch and try it again. Maybe I need a bigger area with which I can apply force on the pivot.

Don'worry, as long as it is smaller in diameter than the pin (but having a larger/thicker one reduces the number of divots and improves appearances), it should be alright. Here are some of my "fixed" ones; although difficult to see, you'll find divots going around the pivots' perimeter and my "tool of choice" for doing such work. I use the anvil end of a 4" bench vise as base.

 Hope it for you in the end.
