My first SAK MOD.
on: October 11, 2020, 07:21:57 PM
Hey Yall, So I got this idea, Super Hybrid Frankenstein of an idea.  I recently got to purchase an 84mm Golfer, but i need to replace the scissor spring. I want to add the wood saw from an 84mm Lumberjack(maybe) Or swap out the combo too(since it has the 90degree stop) and the saw from an 84mm walker,. Im also thinking of buying a cadet red alox, to use the knife blade but really want to use the front scale. I've ordered more cellidor back scales and the 2.2mm brass pins. I still need the cadet and walker.

Idea Recap
an 84mm SAK with cadet knife blade since its new, with walker's combo tool and saw, with golfers scissor(needs new spring)

Also attempting to have the back cellidor scale modded to hold pen/modified tweezer(shortened)/ brass toothpick/pin needle. and Front Red Alox scale(to help keep it slim)

Thoughts? Is it possible?

I already got to fit a pen tweezer and pin. but i sure i can do it better.

Sounds like a great mod, not sure about the scale mods but  I’m sure if it can be done someone will have some pointers for you. Go for it.

Sounds like it might work.

If you are getting a new Lumberjack/Walker then I don't think you should need a Cadet as well as they'll all be the same blade won't they?

Anyway it's definitely one of my favourite mods and it's well worth doing.  Welcome to the forum BTW.  :hatsoff:

I did something similar in 91mm for a family member.

Also thought about 84mm. Is a 84mm knife with scissors difficult to come by at reasonable cost?

Thats awesome! i thought of doing this. but i really appreciate the width of the compact didn't want to widen it. I've actually been able to update my scales on my compact, It now has an additional copper toothpick, 2nd pin, and soon it'll be able to fit a firefly once i order it. On top of the ordinary plus scale tools. For the 84mm scissors I have looked for a few months, finally got one on ebay.. i might have a problem i spent a bit more than i thought i would. But im determined now so i pulled on the chance of buying it.

Be very interested to hear how you did the compact scales mod, one of my all time fave carries, I also like to use the firefly, got a tooth pick on my keychain manager so probably not a big deal and rarely use it then but we all like mods :like:

Recently been thinking how much I’d like an alox compact, I know it’d lose the plus aspect and back tools, but an even slimmer version would be great.

I just won an eBay auction for a golfer, one of those ones you get on the mental list of wants and don’t come up that often. Wasn’t silly money as they can be but still not quite a casual purchase…thank goodness for tax refund!

It's 16mm thick, not counting the slight extra where the corkscrew bulges out.

I made a couple of 84mm scissors based mods but it was 8-9 years ago now and used Golfers were easier and cheaper to find than they are now (though it didn't feel that easy then either :D )
