:like: That is an odd shaped tool indeed  ;)

Day 5

(Image removed from quote.)

Wetols attended chilli cooking duty today, it did alright for the cutting job(handle is not the most comfortable to hold tight to), but fail miserably at opening the can.  The lip of the can is too tall for the opener to punctuate, and I end up have to resort to my trusted SAK for the job.  The chilli was tasty nonetheless, and that's all that really matter. :D

That looks really delicious comis, the sauce is nice and shiny, always a good sign

Since it is the Hunter model, I looked it up on Sakwiki and it seems to be used for 'gutting'.  But I would agree for non-hunting use, probably cutting fabric would be well within its capability.

Thanks mate :tu: sorry my post wasn't very clear  i meant the serrated bit on the can opener of the hammer tool.....having said that the chances of me gutting anything with the hunter are pretty remote (that's what butcher's are for  ) so paracord much more likely

Nice uses. I like the box cutter mod.  :tu:
Thanks, Nix.

I can't take credit for the idea though. Saw it in a Felix Immler video on YouTube.

I'd like to sharpen it some more, but need to get a small cylindrical diamond sharpener. None of my files/sharpeners/Dremel bits are small enough to get in there further.

SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive (2)
85mm: Traveler, Delemont S10, Bass
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox

Day 5 (for real not Day 4 labelled “Day 5”)

Needed to take advantage of a mild day.  The Minimaster helped cut some fatwood in the morning for coffee and then a Fast Fire Stick in the evening for popcorn

It also helped open a package with a new SAK, but no picture.

What about a wooden dowel and some fine sandpaper?

I done this for some serrated knives or kukri-type knives with big recurves.

I start with....well...a dowel of the correct size...and then sharpen using 600, 1000, 2000 grit paper. Strop with compound rubbed right on the dowel.

You can get a fabulous edge this way.

Hint: don't cut into the paper with the edge. Draw the paper from spine to edge.

Day 6

Finally, a function the Flik excels in. Got a bunch of napkins outdoors? Stick a Flik on top, and those bad boys are going nowhere.
A few contestants here can give the Flik a run for its money, though. :D

Too bad I read it just after ordering a diamond sharpening rod.

Day 06
Yesterday's afternoon storm left us without power for a couple of hours which led to my needing to change the 8 D cell batteries in a Coleman florescent lantern.  The old batteries were dated March of 2011 so I think I got my money's worth out of them.

I had to dig into my can opener thread for this. I remember it performing adequately.
Here's my post of it. It did alright. Not that comfortable, and not perfectly consistent tracing along the rim, but it was fine.

:dunno:
I used to think all lip on can are the same, apparently maybe this is not the case?  I gave it my best, but the blade was very barely touching the can lid.

Day 05
I said yesterday that the combo edge blade needed a touchup and I did something I never do.  I used the carbide blade eaters on my SOG keychain tool.  Normally I would use my Spyderco Sharpmaker with ceramic rods or I would use Arkansas wet stones and I would really take my time and give it my attention, but the Gerber MP600 just has an industrial look and feel that makes me think it is made to be abused and eventually replaced, so who cares if you touch up the blade with a carbide pull through sharpener.  Anyway, it is sharp now.  I will use a diamond coated sharpening rod to get the serrated portion later.
Good job! :tu:

A little surprised the chisel grounded serrated portion didn't get destroyed by the pull thru, they tend to be thinner and more delicate than usual PE.

I bought it over the counter on my high street so I doubt it has anything other than the standard blade

I got it just after it was released in the UK (2015 ish?) Did they ever change them  :dunno:

Here's another recent shot of it for your perusal (maybe it's just the angle of dangle  )
Oh, this angle does look like ordinary drop point.

I don't believe I will have an aha moment :D I prefer plain edge over serrated (serrated blades definitely have their place with certain tasks though :salute: ) but a PE blade overall will be the most practical for me  :tu: A combo edge is (in most cases) the worst scenario for me  :dwts:  :D

I know there are some better designs of the combo blade out there but I still prefer PE :woohoo:
I share the exact sentiment here.

SAK-alike Challenge is next month.  ;) :pok:
Definitely should keep an eye out and sign up pretty soon.

Can't believe I missed this...Chilli  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
I meant to comment on it but was commenting on something else then got sidetracked at work

Anyways    :like:
:hatsoff: :D

Daredevil Day 6:  I wanted to test the idea of the hex driver on the file.  I tried it first on a wood screw in my old workbench.  It felt like I was going to spring the tool, so I quit.  However, no other screwdriver would turn that screw (phillips in Swiss+Tech, ratchet driver, or old Craftsman).  I them tried the phillips in the tool, and the hex driver on the file on some lesser screws.  Both worked well.  Call it a win for the Swiss+Tech today.  :hatsoff:
