One Eleven 'n One Twenty-one

One Eleven ’n One Twenty-one: a 30-day SAK challenge

Over the past year or so, I’ve become a big fan of the bigger SAK’s.

My SAK career has covered every size of SAK…and for a long time the 58mm was my EDC. However, since retiring, I’ve come to appreciate the big 111mm SAK a lot more. A LOT more.

I got my 111mm badge a while ago, but I’d like to do another 111mm SAK challenge. So here is an opportunity to join in a 30-day challenge to earn your 111mm badge or just enjoy one of these big SAK’s again.

The rules are simple and standard:

1. Carry a 111mm SAK as often as legally permitted and practical during the month of January.
2. Post a photo of a 111mm SAK every day. (This is the crucial rule for this challenge.)
3. If you use a tool other than your 111mm SAK, please explain why the 111mm was not up to the task. For example: “this lame 111mm SAK doesn’t have a corkscrew, so I used the one in the kitchen.” We’ll understand. Probably.
4. Have fun. A challenge with a 111mm is barely a challenge, right? So you should be having fun.
5. You can use multiple 111mm SAK’s if desired. We awl love pics of SAK’s, so the more the merrier.

That’s it. A very straightforward, no-doubt-fun, challenge for January. Winter for me is a time for bigger knives, that’s why I’m setting this challenge for January.  A one-handed knife would probably be ideal (and I may get a modern Vic Soldier to test out here) in the cold and when wearing gloves, but any larger knife is easier to use in Winter. So let's get some 111mm's in action this January.   :tu:

Hope you guys will join in! If you don’t have a 111mm….this might be the excuse you needed to pick up the awesome Outrider…… :pok:

I'm in. I've been buying a few as of late. May even pick up a WorkChamp or Hercules.

I have the following

2013 Soldier (need to put the scales back on--they've been on the Alpineer for a year, and I kinda messed up the blade when resharpening).
GAK
Outrider
Dual Pro
Master RT

That sounds fantastic!  I used my GAK a lot in Sept. doing some drywall and tile. It'll be fun to EDC

When I first got into 111mm, the SAK was chosen because "Reasonable cost, reasonable size, and what tools I needed for farm and outdoor use".  Now it's--I hate to have to carry this too because I need scissors, for example. I got an Outrider. Wished my Outrider had the bigger Phillips, and the pliers that comes with it, which put the Hercules on my list. But, what about that file again--that's why the Workchamp got put on the list.

My Master RT was an accident. Ordered a used Soldier for a buddy for a super-cheap price, as I felt it would be a good hunting carry for him. The seller goofed, and sent me a used Master RT instead. Didn't say a thing to the seller.  Gave my buddy a different, NIB SAK from the collection (1980s Tinker with a Caterpillar ad mint in box). And I had the Master RT on my list for 2-3 years at that time. After carrying it again a few times, I said to myself "I'd like that file with the tools of my other knives". Locksmith has both saw and file, but typically, not been sold in the US that widely. That's why I will probably end up buying a Workchamp before January.

Ulzhan, you are obviously counting on another lockdown. How could you possibly carry this monster every day in public? Surely you are not planning on carrying it on your belt in a sheath (shudder)? Or are you living in one of those cities in the woods the president of the USA (!) fantasized about the other day?

Carrying the WC XL locks you down, surely. But it has to be tried in the name of science! A lockdown would make this task easier...

We have some woods around here and some local people look like they live in the woods...
