Magnesium Firestarter Storage?
« on: October 17, 2020, 09:57:55 PM »
Used lot of knives I bought on eBay came with a very old Cabela's branded Doan firestarter; which I guess is probably 30-40 years old. I want to add this to the stuff in my pack, and the survival kit, but am unsure how to store it in there without getting it broken.

Any suggestions?

I carried one for years in my backcountry skiing Pack and it never got broken.  I keep it in a leather sleeve.

Don't know how big it is having never seen one but maybe it would fit in a cigar tube.

I usually just carry them in my backpack in a Ziploc bag with some other fire-making odds and ends, and they seem to do fine.  If you're worried about, though, you could just wrap it in some tinder and stick it in an Altoids tin.

:like:  Altoid tin with tinder is a great idea.

Ok, some previous questions:

Have you tried it? Does it work?

What are its dimensions?

The answer will depend on these.
