:iagree:

Getting my options ready

Spades to start

Smith & Wesson Outback Kukri
Cold Steel Bowie Blade Bushman
Wenoka Sea Style dive knife
Mora Companion
Victorinox utility knife

The kukri really would be a wild card :ahhh
Reckon it’s really going to be the VIC utility knife as I use that every day, but the Mora’s in with a chance and never used the cold steel so this could be the time, we’ll see what I’m dealt :dunno:

Clubs - will have to be one of the Opinels…the #6 is MIA, #9, #8 Outdoor and #7 I use in kitchen daily

Or maybe

Diamonds, bit spoilt for choice but would certainly make a change if not dealt any :ahhh

And Hearts (+ a Rebar on the way)

Day -1:

As comis stated, I'm going to deal the first hand of cards to each member tomorrow. That way everyone will know what knife or tool they need to start the challenge on 01 February (Day 01).  Comis will deal my hand so that awl will be above board and there will be no conflict of interest. After awl, there are Gummy Bears and bragging rights at stake in this first round.  :D

We thought it would be useful to deal a hand to comis today to better communicate the way the challenge will be run and allow for some questions to be answered before dealing the first hand to everyone.

So.....here goes......

This is comis' official starting hand for the Gummy Bear round, dealt from a deck of 52 cards that were well shuffled:

OK.... So this hand is kinda crap....but offers some interesting possibilities.....

♦︎ This hand is a "high card" 8 of Diamonds
♣︎ Since Diamonds is his suit, comis will start the challenge with one (1) and only one (1) SAK. He must post a photo his one (1) SAK everyday from Day 01 through Day 07. He cannot rotate through different SAKs; he gets one (1) SAK for the week.
♥︎ On or after Day 07, and up until Day 14, comis can draw (exchange) up to three new cards. To do so he designates the cards he want to keep, and the rest will be replaced.
♠︎ If comis had drawn an Ace, he could have drawn up to four cards....but he didn't get that lucky....so he can only draw one to three cards, depending on what he wants to do with his hand.
♦︎ If comis wants to stick with his one SAK for the first half of the challenge, he does not have to draw anymore cards (but there is no way he'll win bragging rights or the gummy bears with an 8 of Diamonds. We will tease him.....or at least I will....'cuz I'm mean like that.)

So....why would comis want to wait to draw extra cards? Why wait until Day 10 or Day 13 to exchange a few cards?

♦︎ He might be happy with his one (1) lonely SAK and not want to risk ending up with....just a Fixie. So waiting, might make sense to limit the number of days he be stuck with just a fixie....or just a folder...or whatever lame hand he ends up with.

♣︎ Or...he might think that he can win with his high 8 of Diamonds. ( ) Perhaps he'll wait to see if McStitchy or sos24 will draw a better hand....like a 9..... If one of them draws a better hand, he may wish to try for something better than an 8 and win the gummy bears.... :pok:

This challenge is still open!

Players can still sign up until the final hand is dealt to the other players tomorrow. Once the game is in play, the roster will be closed!

but for now....

This challenge is still open!

What if you only have pliers based MTs and SAKs?

Great question!

Do you have a kitchen knife?  if so, that counts as a Fixie.

Now...the folder category is harder to deal with. You would need some sort of folder or pen knife or Opinel or pocket knife.

There is a chance that you could end up with a high card in the suit of clubs. In that case, you would need to post a picture of a folder for that part of the challenge. If you could not do that....you'd have to drop out of the challenge.

This could be just the excuse you needed to pick up a pen knife, though........  ;)

Yes.....it is sort of designed to create a bit of competitive tension and uncertainty.

Honestly, as long as no one gets hurt, and Fuzzy doesn't win, I'll count this as a good challenge!   :tu:

As comis specified in his opening post, and before he deals me a hand, I thought I had better specify the rank order of suits for this round.

In the case of a tied hand, the following suits will have superiority in this order:

This is arbitrary.....but, being a romantic, I decided that for this round Hearts will trump Spades, which will trump Diamonds, which will trump Clubs.

So if in the final round two players have identical hands, say three of a kind with Queens, the player with a Queen of Hearts making up the three of a kind will win. But what happens if both players have the Queen of Hearts? Then the player with the Queen of Hearts and the Queen of Spades wins. If both players have Queens of Hearts and Spades, then the player with the Queen of Diamonds wins. So, three Queens of Hearts, Spades, Diamonds will beat three Queens of Hearts, Spades, and Clubs.

If there is an absolute tie, both players will be declared the winner.

In the case of a flush, the high card of the flush will win. So, in the case of two flushes (any suit), one with high card of 10, the other with high card 8, the 10 flush wins. But if there are two identical flushes with high cards of....say...King, 10, 7, 6, 3, 2...the flush with the higher rank order will win. A King, 10, 7, 6, 3, 2 flush in Spades will beat a King, 10, 7, 6, 3, 2 flush in Clubs. Sorry.

This one sounds too fun not to try.  I’ll likely need some help deciphering the rules as we go. Count me in!
