Day 30

Well, here we are at the end of the challenge. A big thank you to Comis, who first came up with the idea for a Giant challenge and then was so kind as to extend the challenge to lesser models!

I therefore not only enjoyed a month of seeing the Giant in action - thanks to Lisa and particular Comis, who went above and beyond the call of duty to demonstrate real life use cases - but also carried my own XLT in the pocket for 30 days.

As expected in this time of lockdown, the XLT did not get a fair chance to play the numerous aces up its sleeve. Still, I very much enjoyed having it around, dressing it up a bit and discovering for the first time a long overlooked tool, the fishscaler.

So although the XLT will now go back into the drawer (to be replaced by a much smaller SAK), I will keep it and this challenge in very good memory and am certain there will be times in the future where the XLT will return to my pocket.

Many thanks to all participants and bystanders, it was a great joy doing this challenge with you all!  :hatsoff:

Edit: added a bonus pick: fishscaler used to hold a loaf of bread for safe cutting

Love all the colors going on here, great stuff Simon!

Day 30a (Wrap)

To celebrate the end of the challenge, I did manage to open a young coconut with the Giant:

(Image removed from quote.)
First to remove the husk from a young coconut

Next, I'd use the "Club face clearner"(I kept thinking it's an awl, apparently it's a golf tool) from the backside to punch thru the thick husk.

Afterwards, I tried using the pliers to pry open the top, but no joy.  So I end up prying open the coconut with the thickest blade I could find, and success!

To wrap up, gonna really thank everyone partaking in this challenge(in no particular order) Ulzhan, Simon_Templar, FolderBeholder, SDDToolCo and Vicman, each one of you have brought something different to the challenge, and make this challenge unique in your own ways.   Despite the pandemic and restricted use outdoor, I am grateful to be able to make the best of the situation and have thoroughly enjoyed your company on this challenge! :hatsoff:

All the free magnets from this and previous challenges have gone to the printer, and should be ready to distribute in a week or two.  If you haven't given me your address and would like a free magnet, please kindly private message me your address and it will be shipped to you once it is done.

See you on the next challenge! :climber:

Day 30

Looking back on this challenge I appreciate all the pictures and uses of all here

Thank you Comis again for this opportunity

The XLT is my edc and will continue to be but it has made me do some thinking related to the bit driver, I like the bit driver but have found myself in this time going to the inline Phillips 99% of the time, I love the pruning blade and do not want to give that up but still making consider sometimes going with the Swiss champ

Thank you Comis for making up the awesome magnets!

Looking forward to the next challenge!

Congrats to all for completing this challenge!!

One Giant next to another, the Opinel #13.  I placed an Opinel #8 on the bottom for comparison.  :hatsoff:

This is a cool picture.  Holy smurf the 13 is a big knife and the Giant, well.

Giant attended snack duty today...it's a pretty awkwardly fun experience, instead of it help serving the cheese and cracker, I felt like I am serving the Giant cheese and cracker. :D
