My First Victorinox SAKs - a matching set (Pics)
on: August 10, 2023, 10:13:44 PM
Originally, I joined MTO for the multi tool part of things like my Gerber Dime, Suspension NXT and other varieties. I wanted to learn more and join in conversations with other like-minded individuals.

But the draw to the SAK-side of things was too strong. I thought I could resist. My actual very first SAK was one I bought about 40 years ago when I was a kid. But it was lost along with a whole box of knives I had collected over the years during a move.

So, I decided to start over and look around for something fun and nice.

That was when this matching pair caught my eye. They look like they're all dressed up in their tuxedos.

The larger of the two is a Vic Climber and the smaller is a Classic SD.

They really fit in well with the other black pocket tools I own. My Tank007 E09 flashlight, my Buck Vantage Select and my Zippo Cut-about Lite Junior keychain knife. I have many others, but that's for another post.

The compliment of tools in the Climber are perfect for me and my needs. I'll only be performing minor modding to it (pin, needle and thread and other simple additions) and will post when I get it up and going.

Scissors are an implement I find I can't do without. From beard and mustache trimming to snipping a loose thread on a piece of clothing.

I also like having two blades - large and small. The larger is my go-to for most tasks and the small will be reserved for public appearances where the timid abide.

The Classic SD will be giving my Zippo Cut-about a little break from riding on my keychain. I've carried the Zippo nearly every day since 1997. It's time I gave it a vacation for a some much needed R&R.

Not a bad little pair for $20 including shipping.

Great deal and some good usable knives.  What sort of pocket knife had you been carrying before the SAK urge took hold?  The Buck?  Best wishes. Gary

I've carried various single-bladed knives by Buck, Kershaw and others. As a companion to those, I carried a Gerber Dime. And sometimes I'd pocket clip my Gerber Suspension NXT.

I only have one Climber.  A great tool set.  The scissors are first rate.  I will say one thing about black Vics.  If you lose one in the grass, your chance of finding it are diminished next to say a red one.  I lost a black one and only found it by luck.  Plus turning all creation upside down and searching on my hands and knees.   :D  Best wishes. Gary

Well, suns up.  Pants are on.  You've had your coffee.  Is there a black Climber in your pocket?  I hope you had time to put an edge on your catch.  Victorinox sharpens easily.  Best wishes and happy climbing.  Gary

Thanks!

I checked the edge of both blades when it arrived. They are sharper than I can get them.  :duel:

Those are always sad moments.

I carried a Buck Vantage Select for many years and lost it racing at a gocart track. Someone ended up with a nice nice.

I agree, it is enjoyable. I've collected knives for 50 years. I can't believe it's taken me this long to add some SAKs back in to the mix.

Congratulations on a nice pair of SAKs.

I love my SAKs and find I always have at least one on me. They have so many models of various sizes and toolsets that there is sure to be one to fit almost any situation for many people.  They even make great complements to other tools.

Also if you are a multi tool guy, I would be remiss if I didn’t ask if you’ve checked out the SwissTool or SwissTool Spirit.

Welcome (back) to the SAK world! One great thing about SAKs is that you can easily change the scales. And, as Gary said, the black scales can make them harder to locate if you misplace them. The easy solution? A brightly colored fob or lanyard.

Great option! I'm currently doing some light mods. A lanyard is in the mix. I'll be posting the results when I'm finished.
