What to know about a Plate Carrier?

I think about getting a Plate Carrier and Plates from China since the situation getting worse and worse.
What should I know before I buy a Plate Carrier? Are there some special thinks I have to consider?

I’m not sure why you would specify “from China”, and that would not be my choice.

How long will it take to come from China to you? I don't know how well post or carrier delivery is working right now. Maybe you need to look for other options.

I think backpacks that are bulletproof and can fit armor plates exist? Though I don't see why any large enough backpack couldn't fit armor plates inside. Because if the ongoing end of the world thought me anything, it is smurfing annoying to wear protective equipment all day long. And we are talking simple masks. The bulletproof items are even worse...

The backpack is a nice option as the plate is concealed and no one gives it a second look. The vest option is more for those with occupations that needs it. In the latter it’s usually issued by the employer. I’ve been told wearing those vest is not very comfortable.

Sounds like you are in a high risk job? Have you asked your employer for one? Otherwise it’s very expensive. Especially for the higher caliber protection.

I had a coors light and it wasn't bad.  That was 15 years ago tho.  I did have a non alcoholic beer but I cannot recall which.  It was pretty good as well.  Lastly, I had a cider?  It was very tasty but it snuck up on me  .  That was 21 years ago.

I am providing you with a link https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,83271.msg2045988.html#msg2045988 as to why we do not allow political discussions.  I stepped in to say No Politics as a reminder as you mentioned Corona and potential anger towards the GOV.  People have very strong feeling on both sides regardless of where they are from.  You also mention GOV a few more times.  All I am doing is reminding folks, including you who want to have a discussion in this topic to leave politics out.  You mention the police in the US "Well thanks I life in a Country where the Police dont act as the US one: "Shoot first, ask later". This can also be very divisive to many.  The link I offered is a very good one.

They're all uncomfortable.

None of them are "bulletproof"

You might worry more about the plates than the carrier.

You can choose between more surface area covered or more freedom/range of movement.

Stab vests/inserts are a separate item. (and add more weight & bulk, less freedom of movement)

If you get shot in the groin/thigh you're still going to have a bad day.

They also don't protect against head injuries.

They're mostly designed for perfect rectangle or perhaps inverted trapezium shaped bodies, so if you're an odd shape, or have love handles etc, then invest in a comfortable and frictionless undershirt.

Some have quick release, so in the event that they don't prevent an injury, you can get them off fast to treat the injury.

There is not "catch all" option - you need to have a realistic expectation of the threat you expect to face in order to make a realistic decision about the level of protection you need - do you want more protection? quick to get on? comfortable to wear for long periods? how much do you want to spend?

It's as open a question as "What kind of tyres should I buy?" or "What knife should I get?"

Military ones tend to have all sorts of attachment points for bling and gewgaws, police/security ones can be a bit "cleaner" (So whether you are going to wear the carrier as a top layer or "covert" (inverted commas because trying to hide a plate carrier is a bit like trying to smuggle a wedding cake out under a hoodie...)

When school shootings were increasing I looked into this for my son. Pre-Covid I was able to walk into a store that sold them and I’m glad I did. Learned a lot and was able to handle a few.

Looks like you don’t have that kind of choice but just throwing it out there that buying online is kinda hard and could be regretful purchase.

A clever idea that... and it seems that it is something you could actually wear all day, though I'd rather not. The issue of your noggin, sides and and unmentionable area being unprotected still remains...

As someone who worked at a school and had a previously odd and interesting life, I can tell you what you already know  - that school measures are nothing but a "feel-good" joke. There are complete plans that exist that would really help, but schools districts often cherry pick which parts of those plans they want to use and which parts they dont, which makes the parts they want to use less successfull.

Anyway,  here's an odd fact, but a couple of 3 inch thick text books together can stop a bullet. Your kid will get thrown to the ground hard but they can stop it. Maybe one or two, depending on range.
