Completely forgot doing that on mine. Guess I really don’t dislike my fixed scissors.  :)

Ouch!

I know it was advertised as military, but I get the feeling it was designed more with first responders in mind, in which case it is very practical and probably close to perfect.  Looking at the toolset of the SAK Rescue and the SwissTool RS, it is very similar.  Then add that in many areas (outside US) a OHO tool is frowned upon without justification.  Although both the Rescue and RS did have a form of saw and the Rescue doesn’t have scissors.  I am not in the field, but would be curious to know what police, paramedics, firemen feel about the utility of the toolset and saw vs scissors.

I know I must be in the minority due to not really minding no saw, but even though the scissors aren’t as nice as 91mm, I wouldn’t have like if they had eliminated the scissors.  Then again, I wouldn’t have been tempted and it would have saved me money.

I can understand the frustration of those who do like and miss the saw.

My intentions were not to put down this tool, in fact I am very excited about this development. This is all about personal preferences and possible usage scenarios for a specific tool.

I really enjoy reading about other peoples preferences and usage cases.  :)

Parashutists might have a need for that serrated blade as well

Anyhow, there's different models of the Spirit to suit different needs and this new MXBS does seem to appeal  :tu:

Maybe if it catches on they’ll make a different version that includes wood saw

Both blades are put on the same side so the left hand one is the serrated  :salute:

So, in any OHO rescue tool the belt cutter is the most important tool in emergency circumstances when cutting belts, ropes or clothing is life saving.
In my opinion ONLY the belt cutter should have an OHO device (being it a stud or hole).
All other tools, including the normal knife blade, should not have an OHO device in order to avoid confusion.

Did you ever tried something as delicate as opening your tool with your trembling fingers while victims are in pain and blood is spattering around in freezing cold? Well, I did, and you certainly don't want to fumble around to find the right blade.

You make a good point EMZ, however I believe this variation came from the dept. at Victorinox that does their military products, so first responder was not top-of-mind when it was developed.

I have been in situations like that and have also trained for it and I agree 100%. Blood and stress will make a highly polished Spirit feel and act like a wet  bar of soap.

The Spirit is one of my absolute favorite multis but I wouldn’t use it for emergency situations. But then again, the tool you have on you is always better than the one out of reach.

A question to the owners of the new MXBS: on "regular" Spirits, each handle contains a wide (2.5 mm) long tool (blade or scissors) and a narrow (2 mm) one (saw or file). However, the MXBS has two wide tools on the same side (plain edge blade and scissors) so I'm wondering how it's done. Does this fit in the same frame or is one side wider than the other? Or maybe the new blade is narrower than the two-handed version as well as being shorter?

Right then. I need one in my life. I love my SwissTool but need the OHO because...well, just because  :ahhh

Is it available anywhere in the UK, or anywhere that ships to the UK  :dunno:

(I have googled the smurf out of it  )
Any pointers appreciated  :hatsoff:

It's all for history my friend, for history - any phrase from you is priceless!

Checked your latest changes in Sakwiki - excellent, nothing to add..
But Im a little bit confused regarding mentioning of previous version of Spirit - XBS:

Code: [Select]
This model is available with (3.0224.3CN)  and without (3.0224.xxx)  the cap crimper in the pliers.
Never seen XBS without crimper. Can anybode share some pictures of it?

Here's my XBS without crimper, never saw one without it other than the one I have.

I thought the ".sg" link was way too exotic to risk it too :D

Turned out it was all legit and arrived as advertised... Good for the ones who took a chance :)

That wasn’t showing off.  The showing off has been the EDC Challenge where it has been in several pictures.

If I’m not mistaken the “.sg” represents Singapore.

:) After some searching, I think "SwissTool Spirit XBS" stands for "SwissTool Spirit X [ schwarz ] Brünierten Stahl" (or, in English, "SwissTool Spirit X  [ black ] Burnished Steel").
