Replace 1/4 drive on POWERLOCK ?
on: July 13, 2020, 07:05:14 PM
Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I’ve got a SOG PowerLock in black and I’m sick of the spring flying out of the 1/4 inch driver. Am I able to swap this out for another tool, like the rod punch/ scribe ??

I know that you’ll have the answer.

Thank you

I posted this tip a few years ago but can't find it now.  I cut a narrow piece of heat shrink tubing and used it to hold the driver spring.

I also used heat shrink tubing on the scissors handle to make it more comfortable to press.

I put a bit of super glue on each end of the spring a couple of years ago. Still holding with no problems.

Thank you all.

I’ll try both methods.

Can this tool be replaced... is anything thick enough ??

Thanks for the ideas! I plan on removing the scissors, but, making an adapter for the scissors that would fit on the 1/4 inch drive adapter. It may make the scissors an external tool, but, they could be used on their own.

While I’m going to be working on my PowerLock and adding heat shrink as shown, but where can I find additional tool covers for the tool? I think they could be a great way to add a customized touch using automotive or metallic paints.

You would have to make adjustments (i.e cut or reshape it), but Leatherman tools MIGHT work. I’ve considered looking into this, even if modifications had to be made.
