>> Fisher Space pen - great disappointment <<
on: November 22, 2020, 11:03:20 AM
So yesterday I wanted to replace the ink cartridge of my 1994 Fisher Space pen. It's still writing but I thought since it's the original still I couldn't hurt to put a new one in.

To my very surprise the expensive original Fisher refill is faulty. It draw a short line and then nothing  :-\

I've bought the refill together with the pen back then. I don't understand how this could happen  :D

Seriously now, coming to the point/question I really had in mind...

Does anybody know what the expected shelf life is on those?
What's your experience with the Fisher refills?
I guess 27 year like in my case is too long?  :D

Me too. I miss my old one - Christmas gift 1988, lost while in an underage drunken stupor 1992... (sigh)...

You won't be saying that after bits of electrically conductive pencil dust and broken tips short-circuit the computers and air conditioning.  :ahhh
Or you breathe them in...

Graphite, being a dry lubricant will also potentially compromise seals, which on a space type thing can be a bit of an... ISSUE!!!  :ahhh

Well you're right that pencils are mostly reliable (if they are not too pointy and fragile) and deadly.

Just don't use them in space. :dwts:

Grease pencils have been used in spaceflight.

I have had some mixed results with older Fisher refills, some just don’t write very smoothly after sitting in a drawer for extended time.

But 27 years? That must be some kind of record.

A black Fisher Bullet rides in my pocket every day, it’s so handy to have around.
